Our featured program:

This past year, the Community Chest was privileged to be an integral part of a newly established scholarship, named in honor of  Gary Garafola.  Mr. Garafola was a beloved Driver Education teacher and Concord bus driver until his sudden death in September 2012.  Gary was an exceptional educator and he lived his life with passion.  Kindness and charity were his hallmarks, and they guided his words and deeds.  The Gary A. Garafola Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a CCHS graduating senior who was a participant in the CC Driver Education program, who demonstrated an exceptional generosity of spirit on behalf of fellow students and who will use this award in order to pursue higher education.  In partnership with the Concord-Carlisle Scholarship Fund, the Community Chest has committed to fund this scholarship through 2016, after which, the scholarship will be self-sustaining.  The Community Chest believes that its support in programs such as this scholarship fund are important to the strength and health of our communities.  The first Gary A. Garafola Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Michael Wipper in June 2013.

Letter From the Office:

As our fiscal year comes to a close, we'd like to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and thank our many supporters for their confidence.

The Chest takes its responsibility to support human services in Concord and Carlisle very seriously and we are proud that we were able to provide over $541,000 in financial support to local programs this year.  In addition, we feel that our ability to offer educational support is important and we continued the annual tradition of coordinating an educational seminar for these agencies.

The Chest also feels that it plays a role in bringing our communities together.  This year, our Pumpkin Roll and Family Festival, Dr. Hallowell speaker event and our Women Making a Difference luncheon fulfilled those goals.

We look forward to another exciting year as we kick off our new fiscal year and annual campaign next fall.

We hope that you and your families enjoy your summer seasons!

Astrid and Christine

Community Chest
celebrates
Day of Giving

Each June, the Community Chest hosts a celebratory gathering, aptly called the "Day of Giving".  At this event, all Community Chest grant recipients are presented their annual awards.  This year, the Community Chest was proud to have been able to distribute over $541,000 to 29 deserving local agencies and programs.  In addition, the Community Chest, presented awards to its largest business sponsors:  Cambridge Savings Bank, Middlesex Savings Bank, Cambridge Trust and Concord Hillside Medical Associates.

Day of Giving 2013 - MinuteMan Senior Services
CCCC Board member Johanna Boynton presents a grant award to Joan Butler of MinuteMan Senior Services.

After the ceremony, agency representatives, business sponsors, CCCC board representatives and community members enjoyed a light breakfast and an opportunity to connect with one another.

The activities of the morning are clear reminders of the important functions that these agencies perform and the impact that the Community Chest makes in their abilities to fulfill their missions.

Did you know....
  • that nearly 1200 community members contributed to the annual fund this year?
  • that 185 individuals have given to the Community Chest  for 20 or more consecutive years?
  • that 64 households donated to the Community Chest for the first time?
  • that 3 neighbors have joined  our legacy giving vehicle, the Red Feather Circle?

 Thank you!
