 Emerson Hospital Pediatric Intervention Team

The mission of the Emerson Hospital Pediatric Intervention Team (PIT) is to provide for the emotional well-being of children encountering the hospital environment, to minimize the disruptive aspects of a child's hospital experience and to maximize the chances for emotional growth.  Support from the Community Chest allows the PIT to continue to provide important programs and services, such as their Coping Kit Program, Infant CPR Anytime Kit Program, Therapeutic Equipment Program, Coplon Resource & Referral Program and School Health Education Program.

Did you know that over 18,000 Coping Kits have been distributed to pediatric patients to date?  The Community Chest provided seed money to launch this successful program.

2012-13 Annual Campaign
Campaign thermometer

The familiar Community Chest Campaign Goal thermometer.

Last month, the Community Chest kicked off its 2012-2013 Annual Campaign. To date, over 500 community members have contributed more than $210,000 towards our goal of $650,000.  This represents 6% participation from a community of approximately 8000 households.  We are excited to be off to a strong start towards our goal and look forward to benefit from widespread community support to meet that goal.  The Community Chest is committed to financially and educationally supporting the local agencies that provide vital service to our neighbors across the demographic spectrum in a multitude of ways. The Pumpkin Roll & Family Fest was a great success!!
        pumpkin roll 2012
Nearly 100 children and their parents braved the pre-Hurricane Sandy rain to enjoy an afternoon of festive pumpkin fun!  The children began the afternoon with a Halloween costume parade, where astronauts, pirates, princesses, ninjas and more proudly marched and waved to the crowd.  The pumpkin roll was popular, with the children being much more adept rollers than their adult counterparts!  The sack race, bowling, shot put (aka pumpkin smash!), face paint and tattoos were also busy areas.  Several agencies that the Community Chest works with were present and available to provide information and answer questions about their work.
