Domestic Violence Services Network

DVVAP

The Domestic Violence Services Network (DVSN) grew out of a needs assessment conducted by the Concord Carlisle Community Chest
in 1995.  DVSN offers unconditional support to families in Middlesex County living with domestic violence.  Staff and highly trained volunteers listen sensitively to callers, assess the level of risk, identify options of action and refer callers to confidential sources.  It has been documented that 7.5% of all calls to police in one unnamed privileged town in MetroWest Boston are related to domestic violence, including elder abuse, child abuse and spousal abuse.  Further, it is estimated that approximately 50% of all domestic violence cases go unreported.  Concord and Carlisle residents are fortunate to have DVSN available to support our most vulnerable community members.

The spring fundraising auction and benefit, "It Only Takes A Minute", was a great success.  The event offered over 250 neighbors, friends and supporters an evening of wonderful food, beverage and fun.  The creative theme mimicked a popular  game show and allowed guests to try their best at working challenges set up throughout the room.   Music and a silent auction rounded out the festivities.  Proceeds from the evening were applied to the 2012 Annual Fund, which the Community Chest uses to distribute much needed funds to the local human services agencies that it serves.

Thank you to our volunteers for the evening and to our emcee extrordinaire, Peter  Donohoe.

A special thank you  to the gala committee: Penny Austen, Mary Lynne Bohn, Renee Burns, Amy Capofreddi, Adriana Cohen, Laura Davidian, Jennifer Eaton, Janet Friedman, Jodi Gernon, Marty Gilpatrick Wolf, Lori Hick, Ann Jennings, Jen Lannan, Lisa McLean, Polly Meyer, Meri-Sue Nuzum, Hilary Robinson, and Karen Smith.  Amanda Hickman, who chaired the event and spent countless hours preparing every detail, deserves special recognition.

Allocations Update:

Our annual allocations process is well underway with 31 community members having volunteered their time to interview the 35 human services agencies who have applied to the Community Chest for financial support.  The committee is in the process of examining the interview results and proposal requests for aid.  The committee has made an initial proposal to fund $566749, an increase of approximately $40,000 from last year's awards.  Final recommendations will be made and allocation grants will be announced in May.

Our annual campaign has not yet raised  the  entire amount of  money to fully fund all of these  worthy requests.  If you have not already done so, please consider a donation to the Chest now.
