THE DEATH OF THE REVEREND RUFUS BRAXTON CUTHBERTSON
 
The Rev. Rufus Braxton Cuthbertson, 96, of Cleveland, GA, died Friday, September 23, 2016.  A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1125 Bettis-Tribble Gap Road, Cumming, GA. There will be a reception and a period of visitation with the family following the service. Memorials may be given to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, c/o ELCA Gift Processing Center, P.O. Pastor Cuthbertson was born in Charlotte, NC on July 3, 1920 to Rufus Braxton Cuthbertson and Euphemia Robinson Braxton. He received his education at Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, NC (AB - 1941) and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, SC (BD and M.Div. - 1944). He was ordained on July 16, 1944.
 
From 1944 to 1982, Pastor Cuthbertson served as pastor or pastor developer in a number of congregations in North Carolina and Florida. He also served as pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, College Park, GA from July, 1957 to April, 1967, and as Synodical Secretary for the Board of Social Ministry, Lutheran Church in America, New York, NY from April, 1967 to July, 1973. He retired March 30, 1982.  Prior to the organization of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Cumming, GA, Pr. Cuthbertson supported the developing ministry by leading the worship services from 1984 through 1988.
 
Pastor Cuthbertson is survived by his wife of over 71 years, Dorothy Jean Wandel Cuthbertson; daughters Jean Elizabeth Gooden and Dorothy Euphemia Culver; sons Charles Paul Cuthbertson and Philip Martin Cuthbertson; sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law; and 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
    
We remember our brother servant in Christ's Church with deep love and affection for his years of faithful service to the Church. We commend him to the loving arms of God as we celebrate our common faith in the hope of the resurrection to eternal life.
