How will people know?
by Elizabeth A. Eaton
On Wednesday, Aug. 10, the voting members of the 2016 ELCA Churchwide Assembly received the document "Declaration on the Way." More than 99 percent of us affirmed this significant ecumenical statement in which Lutherans and Roman Catholics have achieved agreement on 32 issues regarding communion, ministry and the church, declaring that these are no longer church dividing (page 16). Fifty years of ecumenical dialogue in the United States and around the world led to this point.
When asked if declaration was a step closer to eucharistic sharing between Lutherans and Roman Catholics, Bishop Denis Madden, Catholic co-chair of the dialogue task force, answered, "Yes." There were tears of joy. The assembly responded with a standing ovation. Continue.

A Message from ELCA Secretary Wm. Chris Boerger
September 6, 2016
Dear colleagues in ministry,
This letter is to inform you of the changes to the rosters of ministers of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America that were adopted by the 2016 Churchwide Assembly. The major change is that on Jan. 1, 2017, the current rosters of associates in ministry, diaconal ministers and deaconesses will be merged into one roster of "Ministers of Word and Service." Anyone currently on any of the lay rosters will automatically be listed on the new roster. We will be working to update the website and online records by Jan. 1, 2017. It may be that this part of the transition will continue into early January. Continue.

Have you ever had a brain injury? A number of years ago I had an MRI of my brain and when I read the report I was shocked to learn that a small portion of my brain showed signs of previous trauma. I have no recollection of receiving head trauma but there is always the possibility that a spill from a bike or a horse may have caused my injury as a child or teen. While such injuries may not be unusual there is far more attention given to the care of individuals with brain injury today than there was just a few years ago. Continue. |

Lutheran Services of Georgia has a critical need.
Can you help?
In its work to resettle refugees in the metro Atlanta and Savannah communities, Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG) depends on its trucks to transport furniture that helps to make comfortable and welcoming homes for new refugee families. The trucks that LSG owns have been well-used over the years and are quickly approaching the end of their useful lives. LSG case managers and volunteers have been using their personal vehicles to pick up and transport furniture in Savannah, and the Atlanta pick-up truck has almost 200,000 miles on it.
LSG is working to replace its current vehicles with something that will allow it to continue to meet the needs of its newly welcomed refugee families. If you have a truck that you can donate or have connections to a used car dealership who could be interested in partnering with LSG, please contact Janet Tharp, Vice President of Development at jtharp@lsga.org or 678-686-9613 (direct line) 404-372-4518 (mobile).
Your support of the work that Lutheran Services of Georgia does on behalf of its clients throughout the state of Georgia is most appreciated!
