Southeastern Synod Announces Staff Changes

The Rev. Dr. Everett Flanigan will move from half-time to full-time ministry with the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta (LTCA) effective April 1, 2016.  LTCA is a ministry of the Southeastern Synod in partnership with Lenoir Rhyne - Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC and the ELCA Congregation and Synodical Mission unit in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Flanigan will serve as Assistant to the Bishop for the Southeastern Synod and Administrator for LTCA.  In this capacity, he will focus on the development and formation of leaders, missional lay schools and continued oversight for the TEEM program at LTCA.  Recently ordained to the office of Word and Sacrament, Dr. Flanigan also serves as Associate Pastor, Christ Our Hope, Riverdale, GA.

"The Southeastern Synod has been blessed in many ways by the presence of Dr. Everett Flanigan as half-time Director of Evangelical Mission.  It has been clear for some time that his obligations as Director of the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta (LTCA) needed more of his time and energy as the programs of the center have expanded significantly during his tenure there," says Bishop H. Julian Gordy.  He continues, "The church will be well served now that Everett will be able to give more attention to LTCA. We are grateful for the support of the ELCA's Congregational and Synodical Mission's support of the good work at LTCA."

Diaconal Minister Rebecca Kolow, Assistant to the Bishop and Director for Evangelical Mission, has submitted her letter of resignation effective April 20, 2016.  She has accepted a position as Executive Director of Western Fairfax Ministries (WFCM) in Chantilly, VA.  As Executive Director, she will continue to develop WFCM in areas of community engagement, raising awareness of the work they do, and in developing grants and fundraising.

Bishop Gordy shares Ms. Kolow's letter of resignation saying, "I know that you all join me in expressing gratitude to this valued and committed colleague and in wishing Rebecca the best in her new endeavor. You doubtless also join me in a bit of grief at saying goodbye."

Please remember in your prayers Dr. Flanigan and Ms. Kolow as they continue their work in ministry, and our bishop and synod staff as they work through this time of transition.
