Big look at Small Catechism
What does this mean? Old as well as young need its enduring, concise instruction
By Elizabeth A. Eaton
Several years ago my husband's bishop tried initiating a diocese-wide call to the catechumenate to engage those preparing for confirmation in a period of study and formation. We call it confirmation class or catechism, something generations of Lutherans have gone through. But this was a new experience for the Episcopalians in his diocese. He set about developing a curriculum for prospective confirmands, only to encounter resistance. How do Lutherans get participation in multiyear catechetical instruction? I told him: "Five hundred years of hazing." Continue.

From Acting Bishop Delmer Chilton
Recently, I was reading a bit of church history. (Somebody has to, you know; all those professors writing all those articles and books and no one to read them but other professors. I'm always willing to do my part to make them feel needed.) Anyway, I was reading a bit of church history from Dr. Mark Noll's book, "America's God: From Jonathan Edwards to Abraham Lincoln." It is a specialized history, focusing on the development of a uniquely American way of talking about religion, as opposed to religious ideas brought over from Europe. Continue.
The Rev. Dr. Delmer L. Chilton, pastor, Episcopal Church Of The Messiah, Murphy, NC and former ELCA Southeastern Synod Assistant to the Bishop is serving as the Acting Bishop while Bishop H. Julian Gordy is on sabbatical.

New ELCA Online Forms
Effective June 30, 2014, the process for accessing and submitting forms to the ELCA (mobility, call process, candidacy, roster management, etc.) has changed. For congregations, the Ministry Site Profile, which is completed when a congregation enters into a leadership transition, can now be accessed in this way. For rostered leaders, Rostered Leader Profiles can now be completed, edited, and posted this way. For candidates, all candidate forms are now available through this portal.
Access:
Everyone who works with mobility, call process and candidacy needs to have an account in ELCA Community. Go to https://community.elca.org to create your personal account.
Reviewing your RLP:
When a rostered leader logs into ELCA Community to review his/her RLP, we recommend clicking on the first link that says "Review/Print My Rostered Leader Profile (PDF)." This will open a pdf version of his/her latest RLP, which will allow review, but will not change the status of the leader's paperwork (i.e., inactive, active, archive.) The PDF is in "read only" format.
Editing your RLP:
Click on the second link that says "My Rostered Leader Profile (RLP)." The paperwork may be edited and then saved by clicking on the "Save" buttons. This will then reset the RLP status. For example, if it was Active, the rostered leader will have to go through all of the pages and click Save and Complete to re-submit. It will then need to be re-activated by the synod's Call Process Administrator (AIM Jeanette Burgess in the Southeastern Synod) to be seen by other synods.
Should you have questions, please contact AIM Jeanette Burgess in the synod office at 404 589-1977, x232.
