Disaster Response Funds Still Needed

Disaster response and recovery work continues in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee. Funds to continue this work are still needed.
Recently Judy Post, Synodically Authorized Minister, Beth Eden Lutheran Church, Louisville, MS provided an update. She wrote, "...the [Winston County] Coliseum is closed for collection of things for tornado victims and it seems that the churches have as much as they can handle. So, the only thing that could be used at this time is monetary contributions to the address already in the newsletter and volunteer workers." She continued, "Thanks to all who have been so generous and a special thanks to the synod office for your contribution to Beth-Eden."
Please consider what you can do, as congregations and as individuals, to support this ongoing recovery work. Click here for information on where to send donations and how to sign-up to volunteer. Thanks for your partnership in this ministry of disaster response and recovery.

Planning a Synod Event? Did you know?
Every song/hymn used for any event offered on a synodical level - WELCA, Youth and Young Adults, Lutheran Men in Mission, MLK service, and more - must receive copyright permission and be reported through the synod office prior to use. This includes printed in a bulletin or flashed on a screen. Additionally, it must be reported every time a piece is to be used during the event. If you have music to report or wonder if you should/should have, please contact Jeanette Burgess in the synod office. She can be reached at jburgess@elca-ses.org or 404 589-1977, x232.

Global Church Sunday 2014

On World Communion Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, congregations are invited to celebrate our church's connection and common mission within Christ's global church by sponsoring a Global Church Sunday. Celebrate by taking a special offering for an ELCA missionary or global ministry, hosting a coffee hour with treats from around the world or including global songs in your worship service. A toolkit of these and other ideas for congregations will be released this August. For more information, contact globalchurch@elca.org. To learn about Global Church Sponsorship, visit the ELCA website here.
