Michael Rhyne Elected Bishop of the ELCA Allegheny Synod   

The Rev. Michael L. Rhyne, East Freedom, PA, was elected June 7 to a six-year term as bishop of the Allegheny Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) during the Synod Assembly at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, PA.  Rhyne has roots in the Southeastern Synod as he was a member of Messiah Lutheran, Montgomery, AL and went through our candidacy program. ELCA, Episcopal Leaders Support Proposed Rule on Carbon Emissions 
  
In support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rule on carbon emissions, the presiding bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and The Episcopal Church said in a June 5 joint statement that the rule is a "critical step toward safeguarding the lives and livelihood of future generations." ELCA Advocates for Unaccompanied Children Entering 
the United States

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) announced its commitment to help children coming to the United States to escape violence in their home countries.  In the recently published press release, the Rev. H. Julian Gordy, bishop, Southeastern Synod, shares the focus and concerns of the ELCA Conference of Bishops Immigration Ready Bench, which he chairs. Click here to read the press release.

Registration is now open for the Southeastern Synod Women of the ELCA (WELCA) 2014 Convention.  The convention will be held in Chattanooga, TN, September 19 - 21, 2014, at the Sheraton Read House Hotel.  Information and registration instructions may be found here on the new WELCA website.
