Summer called as Executive Director of Advancement at

Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary at Lenoir Rhyne

Effective February 28, 2014, the Rev. Paul H. Summer will resign as Assistant to the Bishop of the ELCA Southeastern Synod in order to assume the position of Executive Director of Advancement for Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary at Lenoir-Rhyne University (LR/LTSS).

Pastor Summer writes:

"It has been my joy and privilege to serve on our synod staff with Bishop Gordy. I have gained an even greater appreciation for his gifts and leadership since I came into the synod in 2012. His knowledge of scripture, the church, and ministry are special traits in a servant leader. My sense of church has been enriched by his ministry. My faith has been supported by his pastoral care and guidance."

"I have been blessed to work with a truly dedicated and caring staff. Each synod staff person offers their unique gifts and talents in a manner that beautifully comes together in service to the Church."

"As for you, the people of the Southeastern Synod, both lay and rostered, I am very grateful to God for you and your ministries. You are a wonderfully diverse people who come together from a wide range of life experiences and territories throughout these four Southeastern states. I have learned much from your faith and witness to the gospel and have been strengthened in your partnership. I have seen Christ at work among you. You are a truly blessed people of God."

"I look forward to our paths crossing in the near future as I assume my new role at the seminary."

Noting that our seminaries are at a particularly vulnerable place these days, Bishop Gordy said that, while he very much regrets losing Pr. Summer from the synod staff, "All of us on this church's roster are called to serve the whole church with our gifts.  It is hard to imagine anyone with gifts more suited to this position at LR/LTSS than Paul Summer. We wish Paul well as he begins this important new ministry on behalf of all of us."

We celebrate Pastor Summer's opportunity and pray for him and his family as he embarks on this next phase of ministry.
