Brandon's Own Little Town Band!!
A word about our incredible Town Band!!

If you've not heard the band yet this summer, you need to do so!  They play incredible music, incredibly.  Composed of professional musicians, area band leaders, music teachers, and others who just love to play- (some too young to have their drivers licenses, some grandparents who hope they won't expire before their drivers licenses do.)  The band is conducted by Ronald White, a professional and performing musician of the highest caliber.

One concerts remains- Tuesday, August 5th. It will be played in Central Park at 7 p.m.  Bring a blanket, a chair, a pizza, a Golden Retriever, whatever...but do come.  This music is not to be missed!  If the weather grows stormy, they move over to the Town Hall.  You come too.

BRANDON ROCKS ON!
Rockin' through the summer
Hope you're enjoying the nice bright white rockers recently placed around town by the Artist Guild for all to relax in and rest their tired tootsies.

From beautifully decorated rocking chairs, horses and cradles to concerts, from live theater to town-wide yard sales ... and more, Brandon is the place to be for a summer of rocking good times.

The "rocking objects" are courtesy of the Brandon Artists' Guild, and part of the "Art Rocks Brandon" celebration. Be sure to look for them to be showing up around town in the coming weeks. And, be sure to look here for all the upcoming event listings and information throughout the summer as "Brandon Rocks On".

ART ROCKS BRANDON

Once again the town of Brandon, Vermont will become a colorful art destination. Head turning objects of beauty and creativity will be in the form of rocking chairs visible on the streets and in store windows. The members of the Brandon Artists Guild, under the leadership of Warren Kimble and Stacey Stanhope, have artfully hand painted vintage rockers of all shapes, sizes, styles and ages. This is the Brandon Artists Guild's 11th Community Arts project starting with the Really Big Pig Show in 2003.  Work has been ongoing on the Art Rocks project since January.

The collection will include classic, Victorian, mission, and contemporary styles. Sizes and shapes will include cradles, children's rockers, and assorted larger rockers. Rocker art will include florals, landscapes, nature, whimsy, humor and eclectic themes..

Look for other Rocker events such as the outdoor painting of a giant rocker, and a showy float in the July 4th parade, Sat. July 5th.

The gallery will also be featuring some delightful painted rocks done by the Brandon Artists Guild members that will be available for immediate sale at the gallery.

At summer's end, the rockers will be auctioned. The "Art Rocks Brandon Auction" will take place at the Brandon Town Hall on Aug. 23rd.

Rockers, first enjoyed in the 18th century and made popular by both Benjamin Franklin and John F. Kennedy, have an association with relaxation and pleasant moments. This is a special opportunity to own a unique piece of functional original art painted by a local professional artist. The proceeds will go towards support of the art programs in 8 local schools.

The Brandon Artists Guild is located at 7 Center St. Brandon, VT, and is open every day from 10am to 5pm, 802-247-4956.

More information can be found at www.brandonartistsguild.org.

for the Holidays!
Swan&Stone Millinery (Brandon hat-making duo Sam Stone and Nora Swan) have been awarded a spot at the Grand Central Holiday Fair!

"The event runs from November 17 through Christmas Eve, 2014!  We are so thrilled at this opportunity for such great exposure, and both the chance to expand our business and improve the heads of New Yorkers with our hats!  We hope our hometown will join with us on our journey.
The fee for the show is $16,690, so we have created a Kickstarter Campaign with some great rewards, including our most popular hats (the soft cloche and Kepi) at a huge discount.  Check out our link and please share with your circle of friends.
We will keep everyone posted on our progress and would love to see Vermont visitors in our booth over the holidays!  We will, of course, think of Vermont guest specials(including two-way metrocards, weekly specials, maybe exclusive items offered only to Vermonters) while in Grand Central, in hopes that Brandon will Represent!"

The Yabuno Ettun Project comes to Brandon Music

August, 2nd at 7:30pm

The improvisatory and "conversational" Yabuno Ettun Project (YEP) performs at Brandon Music on August, 2nd at 7:30pm.

YEP is a highly creative collaboration between Japanese pianist Haruka Yabuno and Israeli bassist Ehud Ettun. The duo describes their music as "on the line between classical and jazz with a mixture of Baroque esthetics and contemporary jazz".

Music critic and editor of the blog BlueMonk Moods, Eliseo Cardona, says they are "two young masters creating dialogues of mesmerizing possibilities. Their music is based on the intrepid attitude that anything goes as long as risk is shooing away any fear."

Each one an imaginative composer, Ettun and Yabuno have created a unique interaction on stage. Their music is versatile and their creativity is on another level. "The beauty is that we came together through music way before we could find a common verbal language," explains Yabuno. "Once music took over, once we knew that improvising could take us anywhere, the journey itself was our destination."

Their repertoire is derived from a wide spectrum of sources and influences, which may explain why each concert is a unique experience. Ettun explains that "even though we came from different backgrounds, perhaps musically, indeed culturally, we found many similarities between Japan and Israel, let alone between us. Exploring without asking permission, without fear is what rewards us as musicians and listeners."

The YEP has performed in various venues in the U.S., including Jazz at the Kitano in New York, Lilypad in Massachusetts, Somethin' Jazz Club in New York and more.

Concert tickets are $15.00. A pre-concert dinner is available for an additional $20.00. Reservations are recommended for the show and required for dinner. Venue is BYOB. Call (802) 465-4071 or e-mail info@brandon-music.net for reservations or information.  Brandon Music is located at 62 Country Club Rd., Brandon, VT 05733

Double-neck guitarist Ian Ethan Case comes to Brandon Music

August 9th at 7:30pm

Brandon Music welcomes the Boston-based, multi-instrumentalist, Ian Ethan Case on Saturday, August 9th at 7:30pm. Case is best known for his innovative approach to the 18-string acoustic double-neck guitar.  He has been performing in venues around the country for the past six years and is gaining in recognition both for his unique instrumental compositions and for the highly original playing methods which are required to perform them.

Seven Days says, "Most bands would need four or six hands to create the layered rhythms and harmonies Ian Ethan delivers solo..."

One of only about five musicians worldwide to tackle the double-neck guitar in earnest, Case fluidly combines a staggering variety of self-invented playing techniques.  Audiences consistently remark on the fascinating visual aspects of watching Ian play "as he rambunctiously weaves between fret boards, slapping and tapping the sounds of the guitar to life seemingly effortlessly in a style like you've never seen before" (Port  Orchard  Independent, WA).

Case's music was featured in December, 2013 on the NPR program "Here & Now", airing on virtually every NPR station in the U.S.  Following this airing, Case performed his original works at the Boston Museum of Science Planetarium with 4-time Grammy Award-winning cellist Eugene Friesen, with whom he continues to collaborate.  In January, 2013 Case was invited to perform with some of the world's foremost guitarists and bass players at the annual NAMM convention in Anaheim, California where he shared the stage with Robben Ford, Victor Wooten, Stu Hamm and Stanley Jordan, among others.  In addition to performing and collaborating with several longtime musical heroes, Case has performed and/or recorded with some of the best up-and-coming acoustic musicians from around the country and beyond.

Brandon Music welcomes Dan Kennedy composer, pianist and recording artist
Saturday, August 16, at 7:30pm
Classically trained, Kennedy got his start playing New Age/Contemporary Instrumental music at Oberlin College's Cat-in-the-Cream Coffeehouse. Now his music can be heard on Sirius XM Satellite Radio ("Spa") and his new album 'Intuition' reached #7 on the ZMR Top 100, an international chart.

What sets Kennedy's music apart is that it is steeled with jazz and rock, along with rhythmic grooves and strong backbeats. His music conveys his forte with creating an upbeat, rhythmic brand of contemporary music in classic fashion. Bill Binkelman, of Zone Music Reporter says Kennedy plays "....a thoroughly enjoyable and instantly accessible mixture of light, friendly jazz and introspective acoustic solo piano pieces...."

A commissioned and award-winning composer, graduate of both Oberlin Conservatory and the New England Conservatory, Kennedy's music has been published by Dorn Publications (ASCAP) and Mt. Pollux Music (ASCAP).  Kennedy's chamber music has been performed by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Essex Chamber Music Players, at the Summer Institute for Contemporary Piano Performance and at the Aspen Music Festival.  Kennedy's latest CD, 'Intuition' was produced by Corin Nelsen, a Grammy Award winner and was named as a Top 10 New Age Album of 2012 by John Olsen of New Age Music World.

Kathy Parsons, of MainlyPiano.com describes the new album as "an eclectic mix of Jazz, Rock and New Age genres, clearly demonstrating Kennedy's diverse composing styles."
