Transportation Updates

 

Deerfield Road to Close for Culvert Installation, Riverwoods
The Lake County Division of Transportation, will be closing Deerfield Road, Lake County Route A-47, Monday, April 15 at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen to traffic in the early evening of Friday, April 19. The closure is necessary for culvert work east of Juneberry Road.

The signed detour route for this closure will be Illinois Route 21/Milwaukee Avenue to Lake Cook Road to Saunders Road, Lake County Route W-24.

Construction Update

Cuba Road to Close for Culvert Installation, Deer Park
The Lake County Division of Transportation, will be closing Cuba Road, west of the E.J.&E. Railroad Tracks, the morning of Monday, April 22 at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen to traffic in the early evening of Wednesday, May 1. The closure is necessary for the removal and installation of the culvert.
Signed detour route: Ela Road, to U.S. Route 12, Rand Road, to IL Rte 22, Half Day Road, to IL Rte 59.

Arlington Heights Rd, southbound bridge over Buffalo Creek
This project entails removing and replacing southbound bridge deck beams, sidewalk/curb removal and replacement, road resurfacing, pavement markings, landscaping, and new bike path drainage improvements under the bridge.
Work is tentatively scheduled to begin in April, and estimated to be complete by August of this year. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the southbound lanes only; northbound lanes are not planned to be affected. Watch for flaggers, workers and equipment during construction.

Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption Outreach Sessions


Applications for the 2013 Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption have been mailed, and it requires an annual renewal. To assist with the application, the Chief County Assessment Office and the Lake County Township Assessors Association will hold Senior Freeze outreach sessions in April.
Residents will receive assistance in completing their 2013 Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Applications for taxes payable in 2014; as well as, service taxpayer needs on other homestead exemptions offered. Staff members will be working one on one with residents to complete any necessary exemption forms.

Free Workshop for Homeowners Associations (HOA) and Property Owners 


For HOAs and property owners responsible maintaining subdivision stormwater management detention ponds, drainage swales, wetlands and natural areas. Topics include typical maintenance activities, budgeting for maintenance, legal responsibilities, and an HOA case study. New this year: Vendor exhibit of companies who design, install, and maintain stormwater management systems.

Vernon Township 2nd Annual Recycle-O-Rama, 

April 20


To celebrate Earth Day, Vernon Township and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) have organized the 2nd Annual Recycle-O-Rama. The event will take place on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., at the Vernon Township / Highway Department Offices located at 3050 N Main St, Buffalo Grove.

We will also be collecting non perishable food for the Vernon Township Food Pantry. Donations begin to drop off at this time of year and with the increasing amount of people in need in our community any donation would be greatly appreciated.


Lake County Forest Preserve News

 

New Executive Director of the Forest Preserve 
The Lake County Forest Preserve District Board of Commissioners named a new executive director to lead the district. Following an extensive recruitment and selection process, the board approved a contract with Alex Ty Kovach, of Akeley, Minn., to serve as the district's next executive director, effective June 12. 
Kovach succeeds Tom Hahn who retired March 29 after 14 years of service, nine in the top position. Deputy Executive Director Andy Kimmel will serve as interim executive director until Kovach officially begins work. More Information.

 

Lake County Forest Preserve Progress Report 2012
Thanks to your support, we were able to protect some of Lake County's most important natural areas, maintain over 168 miles of trails, present award-winning educational and cultural programs, events and exhibits, and restore many acres of habitat for Lake County's native plants and animals. This year's update is in the form of an infographic and can be viewed here.

Earth Week April 20-26 
A week of free nature programs in honor of Earth Day (April 22). Celebrate spring, learn about ecology, join a nature walk or lend a hand to help save the planet by joining a special volunteer workday. All programs are FREE. All ages. No registration required. Visit our website at www.LCFPD.org

Learn more about this Illinois governor and ambassador to the United Nations as you tour his restored family home on Sunday, May 5. Tour times are 11 am-12 p.m., 1-2 p.m. & 2:30-3:30 p.m.
