Buffalo Grove Metra Parking Lot Improvements Today and Tomorrow

From the Village of Buffalo Grove Parking lot pavement patching is scheduled for the Buffalo Grove Metra Station today and tomorrow, July 27. Parking lot spaces in the north lot with numbers in the range of 428-477 will be affected along with some additional parking lot spaces in the south lot. Please drive carefully and watch for construction trucks and workers. If you have any questions, please contact the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works at 847-459-2523. Your patience and cooperation during this project is greatly appreciated.

CN Rail Crossing on Dundee Road to Close for Repairs August 3-10

Map of closure The Canadian National (CN) Railway Company is planning to replace the railroad crossing on Dundee Road between Wheeling Road and Northgate Parkway.  The construction will necessitate the closing of Dundee Road at the crossing from August 3-10.  Detour signs will be placed at strategic locations to route traffic around this area by utilizing nearby main routes.

County Update: New Code Enforcement Process

Play County Update Lake County recently launched a new process for enforcing nuisance violations in unincorporated Lake County, such as tall grass and weeds, junk and debris, noise complaints, as well as animal care and control violations that occur across the county. State Offers Employers Tax Credits for Job Creation

Illinois Tax Credit The State of Illinois has renewed and expanded the Illinois Job Creation tax credit, providing a $2,500 credit to employers for newly created jobs.  Small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees or any business that hires a "Put Illinois to Work Program" worker-trainee are eligible.  New businesses hiring their first Illinois employees also qualify for the credit. For program details and to register your business, visit https://jobstaxcredit.illinois.gov/Default.aspx.

 

Additionally, the Illinois Hiring Veterans tax credit has been expanded to encourage veterans' employment. The credit will now cover 20% of annual wages, up to $5,000 annually for businesses that hire returning veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.  For more information on veteran employment benefits, visit the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs website.

National Night Out in Buffalo Grove, August 7

National Night Out National Night Out

Join me and the Buffalo Grove Park District in support of National Night Out on Saturday, August 7 at Willow Stream Park, 651 Old Checker Rd. This evening is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and community relations.

 


Bring a nonperishable food item to the Buffalo Grove Police Challenge trailer at National Night Out. All items collected will be distributed through local food pantries supported by the Northwest Suburban Interfailth Council. Help fill the traffic safety trailer.

It was the end of a long journey for 26 people who recently participated in a Lake County Naturalization Ceremony. These individuals, representing 15 different countries, raised their right hand and took their oath to become citizens of the United States. Year of the Bat

The Lake County Forest Preserves is promoting the Year of the Bat through a series of programs, events and other educational efforts:

  • Lake County Fair booth-July 25-29. Visit the Lake County Forest Preserves booth. Meet staff, play educational games and win fun bat-themed giveaways.
  • Bat Acoustic Monitoring-Saturday, August 11, 8-9:30 pm. Join an environmental educator and learn how bats use echolocation to find and capture insects.
  • To learn why Environmental Communications Specialist Allison Frederick thinks bats are amazing, fascinating, adorable and essential, read her latest blog post on Lake County Nature.

Events in the Plaza

Held at Independence Grove Forest Preserve's outdoor amphitheater, this summer concert series offers live music on Tuesday evenings through August 7. In the event of rain, concerts are held on Thursday evenings. This year's concert lineup brings critically acclaimed recording artists performing their original sounds to this relax-on-the-lawn experience. Parking is $5 per car after 5 pm on concert days. Arrive early to secure your spot and enjoy a light dinner, snack or beverage from the walk-up caf�. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating. Free Habitat Walks for Seniors

Explore many of the different habitats of Lake County, learning as you walk. These free nature walks are designed for senior citizens and paced to the group's ability. Nan Buckardt, Director of Environmental Education and Public Affairs for the Lake County Forest Preserves, will lead the Tuesday, August 7 walk from 9 to 10 am, at Sedge Meadow Forest Preserve in Wadsworth. Make a "Playdate with Nature"

Turn off the TV and get outside for interactive play activities designed to connect you and your child with nature. Build fairy houses and forts, explore off trail, and catch and observe land and water insects. The programs are free and open to children of all ages, with a caregiver. Dress for outdoor fun and adventure. A Leave No Child Inside initiative.  View upcoming Playdate with Nature programs.
