Buffalo Grove Water Customers: Here are the FACTS
Many Buffalo Grove residents are upset about an increase to their water/sewer bill, and I want to clear up some misunderstanding as to who initiated this change, and provide some additional facts.
This is important: Buffalo Grove has an agreement with Lake County Public Works to provide sewage service and the village pays Lake County for that service. Lake County doesn't decide how to bill customers, and this was not a result of a Lake County rate increase.
The Village of Buffalo Grove changed the way it bills customers for sanitary sewage to consumption-based billing earlier this year. Previously, customers were charged a flat rate, meaning all customers were charged the same cost, regardless of the amount of usage. Now, customers are charged based on usage. So, in the summer, when water usage is higher due to heavy irrigation (sprinklers), it results in higher bills. Conversely, when usage is down, bills are likely to be lower. Buffalo Grove has stated publicly that it moved to a consumption-based system in order to promote conservation and fairness in pricing.
