A Multiplicity of Dialogues
Dewey scholars and Boston-area students and youth consider "A New Humanism"

On April 6, 2013, professors Jim Garrison of Virginia Tech University and Larry Hickman of Southern Illinois University were joined at the Ikeda Center by area university students and youth for an energetic dialogue on themes from A New Humanism: The University Addresses of Daisaku Ikeda. The seminar's overarching message was that we must embrace multiple modes of dialogue if we are to achieve fulfilling lives and the peaceful global community that is desired by diverse peoples of good will worldwide.

"The Inner Philosopher" at Harvard

Lou Marinoff shares timeless wisdom as part of the Harvard Coop author series

Last fall saw the publication of our third Dialogue Path Press title, The Inner Philosopher: Conversations on Philosophy's Transformative Power, co-authored by Lou Marinoff and Daisaku Ikeda. Since then, Dr. Marinoff has appeared at bookstores nationwide making the case for philosophy as a timeless and accessible source of wisdom and courage. Speaking here in Cambridge at the Harvard Coop bookstore in late March, Dr. Marinoff focused on philosophy's core responsibilities of healing and the cultivation of virtues.

Great ways to check in with our ideas and activities

Our Facebook site has been busy lately, with many new updates and features. You can encounter several types of posts there, including our popular photo galleries. Recently, a lot of people are "liking" the inspirational quotes we've been posting, many of which are drawn from our website essays and interviews, as well as from the writings of Daisaku Ikeda. We also provide updates and coverage on our events and publications. Take a look today, and like us while you are there!

We also have an active Ikeda Center YouTube channel, with 44 videos currently available for viewing. Our current featured video presents Vincent Harding discussing the topic "Overcoming Resistance to Love."

Earlier this year we sent out an email celebrating our newly
updated and expanded website. Among the new features are a section devoted to our Annual Ikeda Forum and another devoted to poetry that captures the spirit of peace. Our News & Blog section provides another good way to see what we are doing and thinking about. This summer we will post special resources relating to our 20th anniversary.

Compassion, Wisdom, and Courage

Annual "Peace Proposal" to the UN now available online

Daisaku Ikeda Portrait Daisaku Ikeda's 2013 Peace Proposal is called "Compassion, Wisdom, and Courage: Building a Global Society of Peace and Coexistence." In it, he says that "if we picture society as an edifice, the ideals of human rights and human security are key pillars that hold it up, while the foundation on which these rest is respect for the dignity of life." Specifically, Mr. Ikeda discusses three actions: 1) outlawing nuclear weapons as inhumane; 2) fostering a culture of human rights; and 3) strengthening Sino-Japanese relations -- an endeavor in which Mr. Ikeda has for many decades been a leader.
