Dear Parents and the Community,

As you may know, the district is in the process of filling three administrative positions for the upcoming 2016-17 school year: high school assistant principal, elementary special education supervisor, and director of pupil personnel services.

Over the past six weeks, the positions were advertised on the New York State Online Application System for Educators (OLAS), on other online educational recruitment venues, and in the New York Times for maximum reach. We were looking to have a large pool of qualified applicants to select from and to our good fortune, we did.

High School Assistant Principal
The assistant principal position drew a large pool of applications from which the most qualified candidates were screened and invited for an interview opportunity. These candidates will be interviewed by a committee of parents, students, teachers and administrators. The final candidates will meet the Superintendent and then the Board of Education with a decision finalized in the coming weeks.

Elementary Special Education Supervisor
The elementary special education supervisor position attracted a smaller but substantial pool of candidates and a similar process for vetting and interviewing these candidates is occurring as well. An appointment is anticipated with a start date of July 1, 2016.

Director of Pupil Personnel Services
With a July 1, 2016 start date, the director of pupil personnel services position attracted a selection of approximately 60 candidates for consideration. After screening each application for three important criteria: certifications, credentials and experience, a small group of qualified candidates was selected to be interviewed by a panel of parents, teachers and administrators. The panel's recommendations then will be forwarded to meet the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education for appointment during this month.

You should know that an extraordinary amount of time has been dedicated this school year to speaking with members of the special education community to understand specific issues, to implement procedures and to structure and support the administrative position of director of pupil personnel services as he/she identifies the needs of students and shepherds the district's pupil personnel program.

In addition, we are committed to supporting all of these positions with mentoring and professional development to ensure a smooth transition as these individuals acclimate to their buildings, staff and our school district.

We have a clear direction that enables the selection process to be an effective and successful one. I look forward to sharing additional updates with you via newsLINK email as more information becomes publicly available.

Thank you for your support throughout these processes and a special thank you to everyone who volunteered to participate in this important work.

Regards,

Sue
