Dear Parents and the Community,

I am pleased to report that we have completed our work as a school community to select a principal for Hawthorne Elementary School.

During the last two weeks, parents and staff submitted surveys and participated in focus groups to provide meaningful input and feedback as part of the selection process.

Our district posting for the principal position produced an internal candidate who meets the administrative certification requirements and possesses the professional credentials for the position. This past week, the candidate was interviewed by a Principal Interview Committee comprised of teachers, administrators and parents and the committee made a unanimous recommendation to put this candidate forward to me for consideration. I have completed my review and interview with this candidate and fully support the committee's endorsement.

On this Wednesday, May 20, the Board of Education will consider my recommendation to appoint Ms. Anne Stern, who currently serves as the elementary assistant principal, as the new principal of Hawthorne Elementary School.

Also, at the May 20 school board meeting, the Board will confer tenure on the following teachers and administrators:

Christina Carmona, WMS English
Miquel Cohn, WMS Science
Raymond Szczerba, WHS Science
Brian McClintock, WHS Math
Carolyn Frawley, WHS Art
Marissa Fata, WHS Math
Mary Ellis, District Administrator (Curriculum/Instruction)
Lisa Sanfilippo, District Administrator (Business)

Please join me in congratulating these highly-qualified teachers and administrators. We look forward to their ongoing contributions of fostering excellence in our district.

Finally, please remember to come to the Westlake High School gym for the BUDGET VOTE and SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS today, May 19, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Our budget is under the NYS tax cap and carries an estimated 0.92% tax increase for next year. Please visit the district website for all budget information.

Thank you for all you do for our children.

Best,

Sue
