Dear Parents and Community Members,

In a February 9 newsLINK email, I wrote that the Board of Education approved a new facilities bond for a March 24 vote. Since then, I hope that you were able to visit our website and read more about the new proposals. If you haven't had an opportunity as yet, information on the 2015 Facilities Bond will be finding its way into your mailbox in the next day or so. The mailer contains information on what is included in the new propositions and what the cost to taxpayers will be upon passage. Please look for it on Wednesday or Thursday and if you don't receive it by the weekend, please let us know.

But you don't have to wait for your mail carrier. All the information is on our district website: mtplcsd.org; and  even if you already visited the website in February, please visit again. The financial piece is now available along with a detailed summary of the projects presented in the three propositions.

The difficult task of paring down the projects from the November bond was done with the help of feedback from the community, careful review by district leadership, the architects, and construction manager. Consideration was given to grouping and completing projects to take advantage of economies of scale and to complete projects in the safest, most efficient and cost-effective manner with a perspective on our students and the academic program. A long-range facilities strategy will keep reduced and/or eliminated projects in the school district's plans and support the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of our facilities.

Throughout this month there will be many opportunities to hear firsthand about the propositions. Board of Education work sessions on March 4 and March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westlake library and the monthly meeting on March 18 at 8 p.m., will include a presentation about the propositions with opportunities to hear your questions.

For those who find it difficult to attend evening meetings, I will be holding two Coffee and Question hours on the bond on Friday, March 13 at 9 a.m. at Columbus Elementary and Friday, March 20 at 9 a.m. at Hawthorne Elementary.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email myself or any school board trustee. You can find contact information in the district calendar or on our website.

And please put Tuesday, March 24 on your calendar. Voting is from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Westlake High School gym.

I look forward to seeing you.

Regards,

Sue
