Dear Parents and Community Residents,

Through feedback at Board of Education work sessions and a community survey, the District has revisited the 2014 bond projects to present residents with a more conservative bottom line.

The reduced-scope proposals preserve those projects that were identified in the building condition survey to maintain the day-to-day operation of our buildings and that meet the goals of the district's academic programs and student safety.

The proposals will be presented in three propositions. None of the propositions are are dependent on the others and each proposition will pass with a majority vote. The vote will be held:

Tuesday, March 24
7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Westlake High School Gym

The following three propositions will be presented for voter approval:

Proposition 1

$34. 9M Infrastructure, Renovations and Academic Program Additions

At $34.9M, this proposition is a $21M reduction from the 2014 bond and preserves the replacement/renovation of core components of building infrastructure and renovation projects to support the district's vision for 21st century learners.

Proposition 2

$4.9M Renovation and Addition to the WHS Auditorium

This scaled-down renovation and addition to the high school auditorium will hold approximately 600 seats and will be able to accommodate both school- and district-wide events and performances.

Proposition 3

$2.6M Egress Road and Reconstruction of Lower Grass Fields

The project will include construction of an additional egress from the campus and the reconstruction of the grass fields at the south end of the campus.

Visit mtplcsd.org for the project itemization of each proposition and voter registration information.

An article from the Board of Education Feb. 4 work session will appear in this week's edition of The Examiner.

Informational meetings on the propositions will be held in the coming weeks. Dates and times will be communicated through newsLINK, our district Facebook and Twitter pages as well as the website. Please urge your friends and neighbors to visit these links and sign up to receive this information.
