The BACnet International community benefits from information and education shared through Cornerstones, the organization's monthly electronic publication. This publication is disseminated to members of the BACnet community, connecting corporate, integrator, site, student and individual end users.

Cornerstones is a unique publication because it speaks not only to the engineer and contractor communities, but also to facility professionals, building managers and owners, and other personnel.
This is where you come in. We need you to connect! If there is a best practice, company news, product news or BACnet Success Stories you want to share, please send them to us. And don't leave out the photos!

High-Performance Buildings & Workplaces

BACnet International will be in Austin, TX at the High-Performance Buildings & Workplaces Conference & Expo, May 3 - 4, 2016.  We will be in Booth 510 in the Building Integration Pavilion.

This conference made its debut in Ft. Worth, TX, in June 2015, where hundreds of facility professionals from every corner of the facility management industry (government, education, commercial office, healthcare, retail and hospitality), convened to learn the latest in the move toward sustainable, efficient, occupant-focused facilities.

BACnet International will be promoting the benefits of the BACnet protocol at its booth as well as in the educational sessions. Rocky Moore, our Marketing Committee Chair, will be presenting "Unify Your Building and Reduce Energy Consumption with BACnet" on May 4 at 8 am.

Call for Content: Journal

BACnet International is currently looking for articles, success stories and product news for its next issue of the Journal.

Articles should be between 1,200 and 3,000 words. If you have an article or product news that would suit this publication we encourage you to submit it to kathleen@bacnetinternational.org.  Success stories will be chosen from the collection in the BACnet International database so please submit your case studies through the website link.
Please feel free to pass this information on to parties who may be interested in contributing to this publication.

Plan to Attend: 2016 PlugFest

The BACnet International BACnet Testing Laboratories Working Group (BTL WG) invites manufacturers of BACnet products to attend the 17th annual PlugFest, an interoperability workshop at The University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. This event permits vendors to test their BACnet products with BACnet devices from other vendors in a neutral and friendly environment. 2015 saw nearly 90 BACnet engineers representing over 30 companies in attendance, working together to improve their BACnet implementation and testing methods.

The 2016 event will run from Sept. 26 through 29. Mark your calendars and keep a look out for additional information.

Plan to Attend: 2016 BIG-EU PlugFest

The BACnet Interest Group Europe invites manufacturers to join the 10th BACnet Interoperability Workshop of the BIG-EU. The event will take place May 11 - 13, 2016 and is open to developers and product managers.This year's host will be Saia Burgess Controls and it will be located in Bern, Switzerland.
Workshop participants should be very familiar with the software and hardware that implements the capabilities being tested and are expected to have a good understanding of the BACnet protocol. The Workshop is only open to active participants. 

Registration is open until April 11, 2016. 

Prior to the Plugfest, on May 9 - 10, 2016, the 2016 spring BIG-EU Meetings will also be held in Bern.

The project involved converting an historical RJ Reynolds warehouse and machine repair facility, and retrofitting it into labs and office spaces. It included three five-story buildings, representing 242,000 sq ft.

The project included the use of the Web-based EC-Net-AX platform for HVAC control, direct integration into mechanical and electrical equipment, energy monitoring and a reporting dashboard. Controllers installed were ECB Series BACnet programmable controllers.

The system was engineered and installed to support the building's anticipated LEED Gold Certification and achieved 31.5 percent in energy costs savings over ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2007.

The facility was up fitted to National Park Service standards for preserving historical buildings.

Notman House, Montreal, Launches #HACKtheHOUSE Series

The Notman House, together with Distech Controls and the City of Montreal, announced the launch of its #HACKtheHOUSE series. This collaborative project will leverage the strength of the local innovation community to transform Notman's heritage, downtown Montreal location into a true Internet of Things building. The series will pull from the technologies and knowledge of local and international tech talent, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and developer communities to make Notman House smarter, more connected, and efficient. Participants of this sustainable building innovation ecosystem include Google for Entrepreneurs, reelyActive, MySeat, ╔coHack, mnubo, Lab Zed, Ubios, DASBOX, TUB└, Periodic, and more.

The first of the #HACKtheHOUSE event series, scheduled for the weekend of March 11-13, brought the collaborators together with thought leaders to plan the creation of the first ever open-source space utilizing the most dynamic technologies available today.

The #HACKtheHOUSE series will consist of four weekend-long hackathons, transforming Notman House into a showcase for the incredible technological solutions being developed all over the world.

Sierra Monitor Appoints ARIGO Software as an Authorized Reseller and Support Team for the German Speaking Markets

Sierra Monitor Corporation, provider of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions that connect and protect high-value infrastructure assets, announced the appointment of ARIGO Software GmbH as an Authorized Reseller and Local Support Team for the FieldServer family of protocol gateways and routers in the German speaking markets.

As an Authorized Reseller, ARIGO Software will offer the FieldServer product line, including the QuickServer protocol gateway, the BTL Certified BACnet Router, the EZ Gateway, and the BACnet Explorer.

Johnson Controls has joined the Cisco« Digital Ceiling community as a founding building automation partner. The Digital Ceiling framework provides a platform that delivers better user experiences through the convergence of the IT network and building technologies, including lighting, heating, cooling, security, motion detection, and other sensors and actuators.

Contemporary Controls Releases Latest Iteration of BACnet Discovery Tool

Contemporary Controls is pleased to announce the release of the latest iterationofits BACnet Discovery Tool, commonly referred to as BDT.
BDT is a free BACnet/IP application for Windows that is easy to install and use. The tool is instrumental as a means of discovering andverifying communication withMS/TP devices that are being accessed through BACnet/IP routers such as the BASrouter or the BASrouterLX.

The latest iteration of the tool, BDT 2.10, comes with a plethora of new abilities including being able to write the device instance and device object name for a variety of BACnet devices. BDT is also now able to support 64-bit Integer Values as well as Large Analog Values. Another new ability that BDT boasts is the capability to save the discovered devices to a text file.
