Success Story
Fergus Falls
Fergus Falls Public School District
Fergus Falls, MN, United States

This project was a retrofit of three school buildings within the district, during which the facilities were occupied, requiring minimization of down time of mechanical equipment.

The EC-NetAX Web-based building management platform was used for integrated control and monitoring of HVAC and lighting systems and for fuel oil tank monitoring.

Controls retrofit included HVAC and outdoor lighting using BACnet ECB Series controllers, Allure communicating thermostats and EC-Light lighting control panels.

The schools now have a building automation system accessible via the Web, providing a complete user interface for the control and monitoring of their BMS, including all graphics, schedules, alarms, trends and logs, and other reports.

This enables them to monitor their entire building's comfort levels and the operation of the equipment, and make changes as needed from any location rather than manually adjusting each unit.

2016 AHR Expo Recap
Thanks to Our Members for Making it a Great Success!

BACnet International was thrilled to support and be among 50 of its members exhibiting at the AHR Expo last week in Orlando, Fla. Nearly all member
companies took advantage of displaying their brochures in the literature racks located in the BACnet International Lounge.

With estimated attendance of 60,000 people at this year's expo exhibitor participants saw a great deal of value in the exposure.

Traffic to the BACnet International booth was also very strong. Member visitors were able to review the benefits of corporate membership and how to take advantage of those benefits.

Member and non-member visitors alike were interested in learning more about PlugFest 2016, which will be held Sept.
26-29 at the InterOperability Lab in Durham, NH.

Non-member visitors were excited to find that individual membership is free. Product listings and the BTL Mark were also consistent areas of interest.

BACnet International also hosted a BACnet track as part of the Expo's education programming. These important s
essions were recorded, and we will notify BACnet International members when they are made available online.

The 2017 AHR Expo will be held in Las Vegas Jan. 30 through Feb. 1.

BACnet International will be in booth C959. We look forward to seeing you there for another successful Expo!
SSPC 135 Concludes Productive Orlando Meeting

The BACnet Committee assembled for four-and-a-half days of working group and plenary meetings in Orlando, Fla., during the course of the ASHRAE Winter Meeting and AHR Expo 2016. While the working groups were focusing on new work items and the resolution of public review comments, the plenary voted out comment responses to several major addenda. The resolution of comment responses resulted in editorial changes only. As a result, the following addenda are now on their way to being published:
  • Addendum 135-2012am defines new RESTful Web Services replacing the current Web Services that are based on SOAP. In addition, this addendum introduces the so-called BACnet Extended Data Model, also known as BACnet XD. These extensions allow for arbitrary structures, a uniform set of standardized metadata applicable to all data, a powerful mechanism for data relations, and a semantic information model.
  • Addendum 135-2012ba adds device descriptions based on BACnet XD using CSML as the language, and adds extended semantic information to objects and to relations in structures of objects.
  • Addendum 135-2012bc includes general BIBB updates for primitive value objects and the revised event reporting. It also includes new BIBBs and device profiles for both life safety and physical access control devices and applications. The new device profiles are added to the standard as new families, utilizing the device profile family concept introduced with Addendum 135-2012al, Protocol Revision 17.

The above three addenda will make up Protocol Revision 19. The committee decided that they are to be published as addenda to the BACnet standard 135-2012. With that, they will flow into the projected new baseline 135-2016 of the BACnet standard, expected to be publicly available spring of 2016.

For BACnet, the RESTful Web Services Addendum 135-2012am is a major step towards support of modern IT technologies and integration with enterprise level applications, clouds and modern user interfaces. Together with Addendum 135-2012ba, a higher level of semantic information can be provided that is consumable by machines, reducing costly manual engineering hours.

On the completion of these two addenda, the committee specifically thanked and applauded former SSPC Chairman Dave Robin from Automated Logic who, as the major author of these addenda, spent many hours and days making possible this big achievement for the BACnet community.

Carrier® ChillerVu™ Energy Dashboards

Great news! ChillerVu™ Energy Dashboards are now available for the Carrier ChillerVu plant control system,
a sophisticated, scalable, native BACnet® control solution for chiller plant control and operation. It
consists of a dedicated controller and a library of factory-engineered control programs that are specifically designed to cover the most common chiller plant configurations.

The ChillerVu Energy Dashboards offers preconfigured screens for both air-cooled and water-cooled plants, providing "at a glance" data representing current and historic plant energy performance. Energy use data, including kW/Ton, iKw/kW, and Coefficient of Performance (COP) is displayed both graphically and numerically.

Display screens are easy to edit using existing tools and processes (Snap and

ViewBuilder). Graphs and other display elements can be removed to represent smaller plants, and complete display
screens can be duplicated to accommodate larger plants. Metric and Imperial units are supported, and local currency values representing actual energy costs may be displayed.
