Plans for The BACnet Institute Unveiled

BACnet International is excited to announce its vision for The BACnet Institute (TBI), a new online center of BACnet education, connections and resources. The objective of The BACnet Institute is to provide an easy path to BACnet information and learning for everyone involved with BACnet systems. Designed around BACnet community needs revealed in an extensive 2014 member survey, TBI will curate existing information and resources, as well as commission the development of new resources. TBI will operate under the auspices of BACnet International in collaboration with other BACnet industry groups.

TBI is being designed to broadly address BACnet education and information needs. It will encompass on-demand, self-paced courses alongside an organized repository of white papers, presentations and recorded webinars. In addition, TBI will provide tools that allow participants to learn from each other as well as share their ideas, observations, challenges and accomplishments.

Work is already underway on TBI components.

Building Automation and Sustainability: A Partnership for Measurable ROI
By Nate Kehr, Marketing Manager & LEED Green Associate, KMC Controls

Sustainability initiatives may be driven by a number of factors such as environmental stewardship, the desire for green building certification, or the financial benefits of lower operating costs. A properly installed and commissioned building automation and control system will contribute to success in each area.

An integrated building automation system can tie building access to the activation of HVAC and lighting for a particular space, benefitting individual comfort and facilitating efficient use of equipment and power. Schedules, trends, and historical data can be used to set, analyze, and improve a building's performance in real-time. Beyond comfort, a balanced control system can also have a positive effect upon occupant productivity.

Building automation systems improve the performance of your building in three primary ways:
  • Greater Energy Efficiency
  • Lower Operating and Maintenance Costs
  • Better Indoor Air Quality
