Red Deer, AB, Canada

Reliable Controls Authorized Dealer, Independent Control Services, Ltd. recently completed a project transforming an unoccupied bowling alley into a LEEDŽ Silver targeted facility used for office space.

The networked hardware in this project included BACnet/IP communication and control of a third-party air handling unit, BACnet/MSTP communication of a third party humidifier, and BACnet/MSTP communication of all MACH-Air controllers to the MACH-ProWebSys. The mechanical equipment included 40 VAV boxes with MACH-Air controllers, 2 condensing boilers, and solar panels on the roof to allow for solar heating of domestic hot water.

The building's water usage is tracked and logged, and the facility reduces water usage by collecting rainwater for toilets. Natural gas usage is also reduced through the installation of solar panels on the roof. This project demonstrates that a small, professional business can have a huge impact on the environment. The space is comfortable to work in, pleasant to visit, and respectful of the environment, while acting as a model of how to marry beautiful, functional, and sustainable design in central Alberta.

We would like to invite you to take part in our Global Roadshow. It will span 2014 and 2015 and celebrates the 10th DIN EN ISO anniversary and the 20th ANSI anniversary of the BACnet standard. The Roadshow focusses on the benefits of BACnet for sustainable buildings in terms of construction, retrofitting and the integration in smart grids. It includes a state-of-the-art exhibition and provides the latest information about:
  • Open communication in building automation,
  • Development of standardization,
  • Interoperability of BACnet devices,
  • BTL Listing and European Certification,
  • BACnet vendors and suppliers.

Therefore the roadshow will be a decisive meeting point for BACnet users in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific - and a fantastic networking platform for planners, integrators, specifiers, facility managers, owners, investors and manufacturers of building automation devices and systems.

Our goal is to increase the global awareness for BACnet. We will introduce the newest capabilities of building management systems and demonstrate the benefits of BACnet applications. We will give an update on the standard and develop new fruitful partnerships with planners, specifiers, operators and investors in industry, services and public administration. And we will encourage the establishment and nurturing of local interest groups of users, developers, providers of smart grids and IT infrastructure and local distributors.

Seize the day and confirm your participation in the international market. The global roadshow is the first worldwide event which is commonly hosted by BACnet International and the BACnet Interest Group Europe.

We are looking forward to meet you in one of the roadshow locations. Please click here for more information about the BACnet Global Roadshow.

Distech Controls Broadens Open-to-Wireless™ Offering

Distech Controls, an innovation leader in energy management solutions, today announced the release of its new 902 MHz frequency radio technology, further enhancing the company's Open-to-Wireless™ battery-less solution for building automation.

Distech Controls offers a wide variety of wireless, battery-less sensors and switches for applications ranging from room temperature and humidity sensing, to duct and cable temperature sensing, to occupancy detection. A true green building alternative, Distech Controls' Open-to-Wireless solution offers many benefits for building management, from increased flexibility and adaptability, to cost and time reduction at installation, to improved occupant comfort.

The Open-to-Wireless solution integrates energy harvesting wireless technology, with upgraded 902 MHz transceivers from EnOcean, particularly suited for the requirements of the North American market. The additional frequency offers an increased effective range, robust performance and enhanced resistance to interference.

"Distech Controls strives to meet and exceed the needs of our customers. The introduction of the 902 MHz frequency brings building automation to the next level by further enhancing Open to Wireless' ability to provide extremely robust, long-range wireless, battery-less communication," said Jim French, Vice President Product Development and Support, Distech Controls. Eaton Delivers New Level of Energy Efficiency, Power Reliability for Industrial Customers

Power management company Eaton expanded its medium-voltage adjustable frequency drive solutions to improve energy efficiency, reliability and safety in harsh industrial environments. The new Eaton SC9000TM EP medium-voltage drives are engineered to help customers achieve energy savings in global oil and gas, mining, utility and water, and wastewater applications, while reducing downtime during routine maintenance through an encapsulated powerpole (EP) and modular inverter design.

"Eaton is helping customers do more with less energy, while improving the reliability of critical systems and process," said Jon Beaver, product line manager at Eaton. "Eaton is providing advanced motor control technology to make it easier for industrial customers to reduce energy consumption, improve uptime and enhance the safety of their processes."

The powerpole inverter with heat pipe technology provides a high power density in a compact footprint, while enabling the SC9000 EP drive to withstand harsh environmental conditions. By incorporating a three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter topology, the drive reduces the number of power switching devices in the inverter, improving reliability by cutting down on the overall components needed.
