Reliable Controls® Headquarters Annex Achieves LEED® Platinum Certification

Reliable Controls is pleased to announce the achievement of LEED Platinum certification of the Reliable Controls Headquarters Annex in Victoria, BC.

Green buildings are designed using an integrated team approach to save energy, use less water, and create less waste during construction and operation, providing an elevated level of indoor comfort. By implementing this well-rounded, holistic approach, a green building provides enduring social, environmental, and economic benefits.

"We are very excited to be awarded LEED Platinum certification, the highest level achievable," said Tom Zaban, EVP Sales & Marketing. "The Reliable Controls Headquarters Annex is a demonstration of our collective commitment to sustainability and resilience, and effectively demonstrates leadership in our own field, showing we can work together to implement a reality that minimizes pollution, waste, and provides a lasting benefit to our community."

Prior to redevelopment, the site's stormwater drained through the municipal storm drain system without treatment; however, as a direct result of the new construction, stormwater runoff has been reduced by 52% and potable water for building sewage conveyance has been reduced by 82%. Overall, the building consumes 60% less potable water than a baseline building. Please click here to read the entire press release.

tekmar Boiler Control 284 Earns AHR Expo Innovation Award

tekmar Control Systems is proud to announce that its Boiler Control 284, the next generation in control for mixed boiler plant operations, has been presented with Honorable Mention in the Building Automation Category of the 2014 AHR Expo Innovation Awards.

The Boiler Control 284 is designed to operate up to four boilers to accurately maintain a target water temperature and communicates directly with building automation systems through BACnet® or Modbus®. The new control will be on display in the Watts Water Booth #2631 at the AHR Expo January 21--23, 2014, in New York, NY.

"We're honored to be recognized by a panel of experts in the HVACR industry," said Nathan Floyd, General Manager for tekmar Control Systems. "It is because of the hard work and dedication of each person at tekmar that we are celebrating this success today, and we will continue our efforts to focus on innovative system solutions for HVAC."

The Boiler Control 284 provides complete integration of the mechanical equipment in the heating plant for operating multiple   heating loads. It controls both condensing and non--condensing boilers that are modulating, single stage, or two stage to provide a flexible, cost--effective mixed boiler plant operation.

The connection to building automation systems (BAS) allows installers and building managers to remotely monitor boiler operation, plant temperatures, system pressure, flow rates, and pump operation using the BAS network.

The 284 is also designed to prolong the lifespan of equipment. Primary pump sequencing prevents downtime by automatically operating a second pump if a failure is detected. Other reliability features include pump exercising, equal run--time rotation, and boiler minimum & maximum temperature settings. For entire release, please click here.

BuildingIQ and S4 Collaborate to Identify Unique Energy Savings for Commercial Office Building

BuildingIQ, a leading energy management software company, and The S4 Group today announce the successful incorporation of their technologies to identify unique energy savings for a commercial office space in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The S4 Open BACnet-N2 Router provided the enabling technology that tapped into the existing Metasys® N2 legacy system, while BuildingIQ's Predictive Energy OptimizationTM software extracted key data on the efficiency of the building's operations. As a result, the two companies were able to reduce operation costs and seamlessly integrate HVAC energy optimization in a commercial building with an older infrastructure.

The incorporation of the S4 Open BACnet-N2 Router and BuildingIQ's cloud-based solution was completed within just one hour, without interruption or modification of ongoing performance. Prior to implementation of these solutions, the BMS' local system integrator would need to manually make adjustments to the system's hardware. Now that the system is using BACnet communications, the building automation industry's primary open standard with S4, BuildingIQ's cloud-based solution is able to make real-time adjustments to building controls to maximize efficiency during heating and cooling operations. The installation was achieved with zero impact to occupant comfort and has reduced labor costs by eliminating the need for manual modifications to the system.
