Princess Noura University
Princess Noura University, Saudi Arabia

Princess Noura University is the world's largest women's university. Located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the university is composed of 32 campuses in a self-contained higher education city, which can accommodate 40,000 students and 12,000 employees. The total built up area is around 3 million square metres. The university includes administration buildings, 13 faculties, a 700-bed student hospital, an 11.5 km automated metro and a residential area that includes accommodation for students and staff.

Not only was the sheer size of this site impressive with 30,000 BACnet controllers from various manufacturers, but the hectic schedule to beat the 25-month deadline of construction was equally challenging. The installation required 18,000 Neptronic BACnet fan coil controllers, which were pre-configured to control 4 pipes of cooling and heating with a 3-speed fan. The Neptronic fan coil controllers were also fully integrated with a Johnson Controls system. With so many controllers one of the biggest challenges was to save time and reduce costs. Neptronic provided pre-configured controllers for the required applications, which saved time and reduced costs related to system configuration. Neptronic also offered the solution of using RJ45 connectors on the thermostats and controllers, which saved time and reduced the cost of installation related to the wiring between the thermostats and controllers.

The Future of Reliable Building Operations Lies with BACnet

There are generally consequential damages or losses when the power supply to a building fails. These may be production outages in manufacturing processes, the disconnection of data centres or shortfalls in medical care. Even the productivity of basic office buildings can be affected. For this reason, the key objective of technical facilities management is reliable building operation. The user's business and the production processes are sacred and "avoid faults at all costs!" has become the mantra of the building operator.

The BACnet communication standard (ISO 16484-5) makes a fundamental contribution to the uninterrupted availability of essential processes. It integrates heterogeneous disciplines within a homogenous environment, thereby creating transparency and security. Even during the system concept and design phase, BACnet is valued as a safe and reliable link in fault management. And practice has also shown that BACnet can guarantee the transparency which is so essential to building control systems. Thus the standard can make a significant difference to safe and secure operations. For entire release, please click here.

The S4 Group Has New Digs

Steve Jones, Managing Partner, is happy to announce that the company has outgrown its current location and has moved into a new location that offers lots more elbow room. The larger space is around the corner from the existing location, right in the heart of downtown Ogden, Utah across the street from the historic Egyptian Theatre. The new location has a large conference room that will be used for customer seminars and our new "S4 integration boot camp" that we will begin offering in January 2014 (just in time for Sundance!). A larger test lab will make testing all of the S4 Open products more efficient, will more easily facilitate joint activities with other BAS manufacturers, and will allow us to expand our support for integrations to additional legacy BAS products. Steve believes the most critical attribute of the space is that it will accommodate staff expansion to enable us to continue delivering the quality products and high level of customer service that we are known for in the industry.

The move is complete and our new address is 2444 Washington Blvd Suite 100 Ogden, Utah. For more information, please click here.
