Kenneth Chenault and Duke of Devonshire Receive Awards at Hadrian Gala
On October 23, at a gala in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza in New York City, World Monuments Fund presented the 25th Hadrian Award to Kenneth Chenault (pictured), Chairman and CEO of American Express, for his and his company's work to preserve historic sites around the world. WMF presented the Watch Award to the Duke of Devonshire for his leadership in restoring Chatsworth House, his ancestral estate in England. A slideshow of the event is on our website. 
Exhibition Opens at Soane Museum
An exhibition celebrating the work of World Monuments Fund Britain opened at the Soane Museum in London on October 26. The exhibition features current and past WMF Britain projects, supplemented by documents and drawings from the Soane Museum's permanent collection and objects relating to the sites. The exhibition runs through January 26. 
Training Course Concludes at Lalibela
This fall marked the conclusion of the first WMF-supported training course in preservation skills at Lalibela, Ethiopia. Twenty local craftspeople participated in the five-month course, which included classroom sessions and field activities. This program is part of an initiative supported by WMF to establish a permanent team of local conservators at the site who can undertake repairs and preservation work on the medieval rock-hewn churches. 
Carracci Gallery Project Launched
The project to restore the Carracci Gallery in Rome's Palazzo Farnese launched in early October. This first phase of work, the operational stage, will consist of scientific assessments carried out by a team of experts. Physical restoration work is scheduled to begin in January 2013.
