Water in the West: What’s your perspective?

divider

Greetings!

Welcome to the all-new Confluence newsletter. In this issue, we highlight two recent well-received Carpe Diem West Academy webinars on Assessing Vulnerability and Watershed Valuation and bring you follow-up interviews with two of the presenters. These webinars are proving to be extremely useful for everyone working at the nexus of western water management and climate change.

Regards,
Kimery Wiltshire, Executive Director

Running the numbers:
What’s the value of your watershed?

How do you put monetary values on natural assets, such as wetlands, rivers, or riparian buffers? You couple hydrology, ecology, and economics. In our June 21 webinar, we explored how valuation studies can help water managers, policy makers, NGOs, and others communicate with their stakeholders, find funding sources, and align different organizations around critical priorities.

Assessing vulnerability:
Where should you start?

Water system vulnerabilities don’t end with water supply, so how do you put together a comprehensive assessment of your weak points? It can be a bit overwhelming—especially if your organization has minimal resources. In our September 20 webinar, we talked in detail about framing and evaluating water system vulnerabilities, and took a look at an example from the Salt River Project.
