Quality Reporting and Customer Service: Yes, There IS a Connection

The hospice mission is one of the most highly regarded in healthcare -- known for its unfailing commitment to honoring the individual with respect, comfort and family support in some of the most daunting life scenarios.  With so much as stake to preserve that mission, increasing requirements with CMS quality reporting measures warrant better strategies for maximizing customer service -- specifically targeting the Hospice Item Set (HIS) and CAHPS Hospice Survey. 
Hospices who do not comply with the regulations related to HIS and CAHPS will face a 2 percent penalty reduction in reimbursement.

Katherine Northcutt, Senior Manager, Simione Healthcare Consultants, contends that excellence in customer service is a pivotal factor in helping hospice organizations achieve quality outcomes and comply with the related CMS requirements brought on by the Affordable Care Act. "Quality begins when the phone rings," says Northcutt, "because what we say and do with hospice referrals and admissions impacts the response to care and the perception of that care by patients and their loved ones. Rather than see quality reporting requirements as simply 'checks and balances' to ensure hospice is 'getting it right', these data provide clear direction to improve the effectiveness of hospice through a higher level of customer service."

Simione Healthcare Consultants Appoints Wayne Regan as Director of Interim Management Services 

Simione Healthcare Consultants has announced the appointment of Wayne A. Regan as Director of Interim Management Services. Regan has 15 years of progressive leadership and consulting experience in home care, hospice, palliative and long-term care, and more than a decade of experience in sales and marketing of health care products and services. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President for MetroWest HomeCare & Hospice, Tenet Healthcare, where he led regional operational efforts for post-acute services.  He also was a principal with Homecare & Hospice Solutions, an independent consulting firm in post-acute services focusing on strategic planning, business development, feasibility studies, interim management and turnaround operations.

In his new role at Simione, Regan will work to further develop the firm's interim executive management services to assist post-acute organizations with leadership transitions that support strong business performance and strategic growth.

Simione Financial Monitor Expands Support Team, Hospice Indicators 
 
Simione Healthcare Consultants has promoted Brian Martin to the position of Vice President of Simione Financial Monitor. A financial and cost reporting senior consultant with the firm since 2008, Brian primary focus has been helping clients to achieve their financial goals. He will spearhead services and support for Simione Financial Monitor as a leading analytic tool for home care and hospice organizations. New Hospice Measures
Simione Financial Monitor has also introduced new hospice benchmarks to prepare and support hospice organizations with their increased reporting and operational needs.  These additional hospice indicators provide more detailed information for: Direct Care Staffing, Direct Cost Detail, Level of Care Data, Inpatient Unit Cost and Staffing, and Inpatient Profit Margins.
