ABC (summer ball) Nation,

I am in the final stages of adding the last bits of information to the summer ball master calendar (Google calendar) on the ABC website (there is already plenty of content posted). The master calendar will serve as a primary resource for "general" information related to the day-to-day summer ball activities and help you and your family stay on top of "all things ABC" (ie: weekly workshops, optional workshops, field practices, field clinics, tournament weekends, etc).  Each ABC team has their own individual team page that contains specific "team" information related to tournament/game day info, game times, meetings, etc. *by design, individual team pages will go "live" tomorrow (May 1st). You will be receiving a welcome e-mail with information about your team's mandatory team meeting for players and at least one parent.

Regular weekly indoor training workshops will begin the week of Monday, May 13th (reminder that both indoor academies are open Mon-Thurs, 4:30-8:00 and Sunday's 2:00-4:00 for extra reps). Traditionally, we encourage ball players to take time off at the conclusion of their spring high school season to recharge their battery and enjoy some free time after school with family and friends. The spring has been a grind and our desire is that you transition into the summer season refreshed and chomping at-the-bit. *note, there are a handful of optional workouts (indoors and on the field) prior to 5/13 for those who would like to get a jump start. Please review the summer master calendar for more details.

Next step

At this time, please to take a peek at the ABC summer ball master calendar posted on the ABC summer home page

Click through the May, June and July calendars. Below are a few highlights I want you to play close attention to as you are reviewing the calendar:

  • designated tournament weekends (three weekends in June; three in July)
  • weekly workshop schedule
  • Sunday (5/4)  there is an optional field clinic and new family meet & greet
  • next week there are some opportunities to attend a weekly workshop orientation at both indoor academies (players & parents). These orientations will be hosted Mon-Thurs and designed to introduce you to one of the most important components of the ABC purpose statement: innovative training and weekly development workshops (I highly recommend you take advantage of these orientations). I will be your host and plan to provide you with a unique "look" into the ABC workshop curriculum, drills, methodology; there will be time for Q&A; reps for players.
  • there is an optional field clinic Sat 5/11
  • the week of May 13th is the official start of weekly development workshops. Ball players will have the opportunity to register for a Mon or Tues SAQ training class and a Wed or Thurs Arm care/Swingtherapy class. All sessions are 1hr. There will be a follow up e-mail with a link to an online workshop registration form. Again, you will be registering to come to an indoor workout on Mon or Tues and Wed or Thurs.
  • Sat 5/18 each team will have a team field practice.
  • Sun 5/19 each team will play an ABC league game.
  • Off Memorial Day weekend
  • Pro-style skills testing combine on Sun 6/2.
  • starting the week of 6/10 (the first week after our tournament schedule begins) the weekly schedule shift's to Monday's off, field workout every Tuesday; you will continue to attend your same Wed or Thurs Arm Care/Swingtherapy class.

*ball players who are participating in the high school playoffs are not permitted to participate until your high school team is eliminated.

Baby Steps

The take away from this e-mail is that you are in great hands. The ABC summer program is well thought out and the staff and I want this to be the best summer you have experienced so far! We would like you to take a minute to review the summer ball master calendar (if you have not already done so). Take note of the entries. As a a family, please be thinking of the best weekly workshop schedule for your ball player. During May, you will attend a workshop Mon or Tues (start times: 6:00 or 7:00) and Wed or Thurs (start times: 5:00, 6:00 or 7:00). Once tournaments begin in June, your weekly schedule adjusts to Tuesday field practice; you continue to come to your Wed or Thurs indoor workout. We require all players to pre-register for their weekly workshop's (specific days and time slots). A registration e-mail will be sent with additional registration instructions and a link to the online registration form (days and time slots have a max number of participants; once a specific time slot has filled with max number of participants, registration is cut off for that class time).

Up Next

Sit tight. Keep an eye out for follow up e-mails containing updates, a link to register for weekly workshop's, and additional information designed for your success. Start thinking about registering for the field clinics scheduled over the next couple of weekends; make an effort to register for the indoor training workshop orientations I am hosting next week; enjoy this window of time off. Do something non-baseball related.
