WHAT'S THE CO-OP'S MAINE BEER?

Jeremy DeChario, Brau Meister, Looks Far & Wide For His Beer Selections & Has Gone As Far East In The US As He Could. The State Of Maine!

The Maine Beer Company, located in Portland, Maine, is a small brewery with a very limited marketing budget. They ask that if you like their beer to please spread the word. We at the Co-op say, "Tell your friends and tell them that they can get this great beer at the Syracuse Real Food Co-op." They also say, "Thank you for drinking our beer!"

Freshness is key with their beer. Aside from their stout (Mean Old Tom) they produce hoppy american style ales. Hops do not like age. So, please do not age them.  They also have a date stamp on the bottle MM/DD/YY.  The date is the born on date and they highly recommend drinking no later than 90 days old. The earlier they are consumed the better they will be.

Fancy Beer Taps At The Brewery

The Maine Beer Company, owned by brothers David and Daniel Kleban, produces the unfiltered, bottle-conditioned, quality beer they started making in a garage and selling from a car but are now making in larger batches for wider distribution.

The elegant bottles, with simply designed labels done by David, affirm the brewery's plain beginnings.

A Bottle Of Peeper & The Maine Beer Co. Brew Tanks

Peeper (pictured above), the company's flagship brew, their original hoppy American ale is a dry, clean, well-balanced ale with a generous dose of American hops. Jeremy will be stocking the following additional Maine Beer Company beers: Zoe, their take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit.  Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus; Mean Old Tom, an American-style stout aged on organic vanilla beans.  Intense notes of coffee and dark chocolate lead way to subtle notes of natural vanilla.  Flaked oats generate a silky mouth feel; and King Titus, their take on an American robust porter.  Dark, thick, chewy, chocolaty, and of course, generously hopped.

The Klebans are as focused on doing good, as they are on staying small: they are members of 1% for the Planet, their electricity is fully wind powered and they donate their used grain, yeast and grain bags to local farmers.
