 Produce Practices

We love produce! It's delicious, nutritious, and so varied! But like other foods, fresh fruits and vegetables need to be handled safely at home to prevent food poisoning.

That's why we're launching a new campaign late this spring that will give you tools to teach consumers about handling produce safely to reduce risk of food poisoning.

In the FDA's 2010 Food Safety Survey, 36% of respondents said they believe raw vegetables are not at all likely to make them sick. We've even done a Mythbuster on this subject.

We want consumers to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables while taking simple steps to reduce risks associated with foodborne pathogens like E.Coli, Listeriosis, Salmonella, and Cyclosporiasis.

What can you do now? Make plans for your consumer outreach programming to include produce safe handling -- and stay tuned for campaign updates from the Partnership for Food Safety Education!
