Separate: What you need to know

Why is Separate Important?

Cross contamination is how bacteria can be spread (even to surfaces you just cleaned!). Reduce cross contamination at home before it gets out of hand with the proper handling of food and proper cleaning practices.

Separate: Consumer Data Points

Here are some findings from recent studies and surveys:

  • Potential cross contamination occurred in 74% of households observed.
  • Salmonella Typhimurium can be transferred to food almost immediately upon contact and can survive for up to 4 weeks on dry surfaces.
  • Many consumers report they do not have a cutting board and that they cut meat directly on the counter top!

What do do:

Stop the spread of harmful bacteria! Make sure consumers know how cross contamination occurs and what steps they can take to stop it. Use these resources to spread the word - not bacteria!
