National, USA (June 2, 2015) - National Women's Coalition Against Violence& Exploitation (NWCAVE) has opened the nomination period for the Jane Velez-Mitchell Journalism Award for journalists who are dedicated and consistent in covering violence against others and animals without re-victimizing the victims in the story.
The Jane Velez-Mitchell Journalism Award, named after award-winning journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell, recognizes excellence in coverage of news of local, national, and international significance, with a single award for a journalist who uses the power of media and his/her position to highlight the ongoing violence against others including women, children and animals. Whether domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, kidnapping and abductions, hate crimes or other despicable crimes and violence against human life, a story delivered without re-victimizing and re-exploiting the victim(s) or animal abuse related coverage and reports are the elements in which we will consider for this award.
"We are hoping journalists throughout the country will be nominated for their great work in keeping the awareness and issues on the violence in our society against others and animals a focus point of their reporting as Jane has for over three decades ," said Michelle Bart, president of NWCAVE.
Honoree(s) will be presented the award by Jane at the Southwest Conference Against Trafficking January 15-17, 2016 in Ontario, CA.
