Dear friends!
First and foremost, thank you for your continued support over the past years! The National Women's Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) this summer will celebrate our anniversary on June 14th and will host our annual meeting of our stakeholders. We have launched our Southwest Conference Against Trafficking (www.swcat.org) efforts and registration opens July 1st. In addition, Jane and NWCAVE launched this month the Jane Velez-Mitchell Journalism Award nomination process which now thru September 30th we encourage you to nominate a journalist making a difference!
We have been busy with our missing persons division, our conferences and summits, the national training institute, speaker's bureau, community outreach, our Gift of Lift program and our national media efforts to name a few things. We are in the process of updating our computer system and enhancements for our websites are underway.
This month Dr. Kathie Mathis, our national training director, will be touring with us for two weeks in the Pacific Northwest conducting sold-out trainings in human trafficking advocate certification and domestic violence advocate trainings. Dr. Mathis will also be presenting 'Understanding the Mind of a Predator' at the Vancouver Police Chief Diversity Advisory Team meeting and the Clark County Human Trafficking Task Force. Rounding out our trainings we will be conducting a domestic violence/human trafficking training for the Wahkiakum County Prosecutor's Office and the LAMPARA (Latinas As Mentor Partners and Resource Associates) trainings with our partners at Southwest Washington League of United Latin American Citizens Council.
NWCAVE is honored to be supporting 'Run Like a Girl' 5k event for Second Step Housing this month on June 13th and come visit our booth at the Vancouver PRIDE event at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver, WA on July 11th!
Our president, Michelle Bart will be undergoing her second total hip replacement on July 27th. During this time, our missing persons division will continue under Director Shelley Shaffer's leadership on the cases we already are working on and our SWCAT 2016 efforts will continue moving forward with the steering committee, the NWCAVE office however, will be closed from July 13 - September 1st. Any calls and emails will be responded to when we reopen in September.

From our Treasurer Wanda Costi: Ways to donate and support our mission, click here! When we became a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit we worked on a calendar year (January - December) but after deliberations with the IRS, our grantors and our accountants the board of directors decided to change to a fiscal cycle (July 1-June 30th) beginning this summer. Our conferences take place in January each year which ultimately makes for a reflection of our profit/loss in two different tax years. Changing to a fiscal cycle will represent a better reflection of our financials for grants, donors and the public. NWCAVE has filed our 990 for 2014 and will file another 990 for 2015 this summer. Our new tax season will begin July 1, 2015 - June 20, 2016.
On behalf of our entire board, leadership directors, media council and volunteers, thank you for your support, partners and contributions the past few years. Have a safe and fun summer!
Carolyn
