ALBERTA #69 HIGH SUCCESS SPRING BLACK BEAR
|
This is an outstanding outfitter in Alberta who not only produces good bears, but lots of bears. Over the last eight or 10 years, the outfitter has averaged between 1.6 to 1.8 bears per hunter. That includes bow hunters and gun hunters. That means nearly everyone has a chance at taking two bears! And quite a few color phase too. The outfitter hunts in the famed Peace River area of Alberta. The bear hunting there has been written up dozens of times in various sporting magazines. It's one of the premier bear hunting areas in North America. The average size bear is also excellent. Typically, bears will average between six and seven feet long in the spring and perhaps a few inches larger in the fall. Top bears have made eight feet and seven footers are taken regularly.
They have a modern lodge with all amenities along with a couples room too. His concession in the Peace River region produces genetically superior bears based on what we have seen. He does both rifle and bow, but really enjoys archers. The largest black bear ever recorded in Alberta recently came from their hunting area. Two years in a row, their clients have won the Outfitters Award for the largest black bear taken by a non-resident hunter.
For Spring bear, in terms of transport details: Fly into Edmonton. Then either fly into Grand Prairie or drive there. CO #8 MULIES & YOUTH WHITETAIL VOUCHERS
|
This outfitter is based in north-central Colorado. For many years he has been producing some of the best trophies in the state. The outfitter regularly places his trophies in the top 3 slots of the Colorado Outfitters Association Best Species Contest, which is open to all outfitters in the organization. A few years ago, he won multiple awards for every single species he hunts. Best of the best is a reasonable conclusion!
One of the outfitter's hunting area is Game Management Unit 20, which borders Rocky Mountain National Park on the east side. The outfitter and a partner have locked up a number of large private ranches in the area. This hunt is more of a ranch-style affair. Clients stay in the ranch house and drive to the hunting area. Hunters stay in a ranch house and the hunt includes meals. These are normally very high success deer hunts.
These private land foothill mule deer hunts are available November 16-20 in unit 20. Hunt for 160 to 180 class bucks, with an occasional buck over 180 harvested.
The hunt is $3750, plus a $750 harvest fee. The voucher is $200, that must be paid directly by you to the landowner (Colorado law). Lodging, and meals included.
He also has a Youth (age 12-17) Eastern Plains Whitetail voucher available. November 3-8 expect high success on 150 class deer. This is a spot and stalk hunt, with elevated box blinds available if conditions are right for there use.

NEBRASKA #80 HUNT-NATION WHITETAIL SPECIAL
|
Guys and gals- this is a must do hunt and especially for this year! Butch and Joan have already booked two deer hunts for themselves! The last 3 years, 2013, 2014 and 2015 have kicked out some true trophy deer for this outfitter's clients. Best whitetail grossed 209!!
Good numbers of 140 to 160 deer as well- but they are not behind every tree so you will earn them. Sheds picked up during the winter of 2015/16 ranged from an estimated 150 into the mid 170's. They have seen and have trail cam pix of bucks there that will push 180, and maybe even more. But those are the top end. So please do not expect one like that- but it could happen! We think a patient man should take something in the 130 to 160 range. The fully guided hunts try to concentrate on deer 140 and over. Opportunity has been running very close to 100%. One guy missed an easy 160 class at 60 yards with his muzzleloader last year (2015).
With a huge fire on both side of the River - the habitat has had a massive improvement in forage. That has resulted in increased habitat and horn growth, and has caused the deer herd to grow quite sharply. The result is the chances for taking a trophy buck are very good. Typically, 70% of the harvest in NE are bucks 2 ½ years and older. That gives them time to grow a nice set of antlers. Bucks that survived the last few years have seen little hunting pressure and have reached trophy proportions. This outfitter took a 190" whitetail in 2014, plus a number of 140 to 160 inch whitetail deer. In their area, most mulies are 140 to 160" range, but there are a few toads who can reach as high as 180.

The outfitter has in all nearly 30,000 acres- all private, all patrolled and carefully managed for quality deer. They have access to a fourteen mile stretch of river bottom and plains along the Niobrara River as well as other property.

BELIZE # 64 PERMIT, TARPON, BONES & SNORKELING
|

Joan and I, and 2 other couples just returned from the Central America country of Belize, where we went to do some flats fishing for bones, permit and tarpon, and also to do some world class snorkeling. We had done a good deal of research to try and find what we thought would be a premium destination for fly and spin fishing, and for snorkeling, all in a remote area with excellent amenities. Not easy to find, but this place was about a 9.5 out of 10! Fishers and non-fishers had a ball.
To keep this report fairly short (ask us for the full writeup if interested), we stayed on a reef about 30 miles off the coast of Belize. Incredibly remote and beautiful. You could stand on the Lodge deck, or by the infinity pool, and see bonefish tailing just a few yards from the Lodge. Not a few either- a ton of them. Typical day was up around 6, breakfast about 7, then off to the flats boats, or else to the snorkeling boat.
Fishing was absolutely world class, but not easy. You had many shots at bonefish every day, a few for permit, and a few for tarpon if you chased them. We even tried trolling (to beat the still air and heat) for barracuda and I had a 50" fish make my 10 weight fly reel sound like it was screeching in mortal agony!
Guides spoke great English, were adept and patient. Joan and I probably caught around 40 or more bones, and 5 or 6 barracuda. One group of rookies had the trip of lifetime catching a permit apiece and probably 10 or more bones each in their 3 days of fishing.
The wives could not stop talking about their snorkeling trips with a naturalist who also entertained us all at night with his National Geographic like under water closeup photos taken that day. The ladies had a ball. Dinners were superb, the bar was excellent (watch out for their rum punch!) Several in our group had little or no fly fishing experience but guides taught them enough for them to score on bones and hook them on the sport. No need to worry if you need to learn- you will!
Be sure to spend time in town to see the Mayan ruins- a must see. We also did the zoo and saw a huge black jaguar- a life long want to see for me. Friendly people and a long season- fishing is 12 months a year, Peak is Jan thru May, June for tarpon. An awesome operation!

"I hunted with this PH a couple years ago. It was my first trip to Africa. I hunted lioness, gemsbok, impala and zebra. Let my just start by saying what a first class organization this is! They bend over backwards to make you feel at home. Just such a professional and impressive outfit. My PH and the team took care of both me and my wife from start to finish. He was always available and even before my hunt he was always willing to answer my questions in a timely and kind manner. He treated us like a member of his family. MISSOURI #70 BIG WHITETAILS- GREAT PRICING
|
If you are looking for a trophy whitetail hunt you really don't need to look any farther. This outfitter in far Northeast Missouri is doing everything right. He has 1600 acres of private leases near Kohoka MO.
The land Includes crop fields, and food plots, with plenty of cover, and bottom land for the deer bed up in during the day. Just what you need to grow these big bucks they are shooting every year. All properties have box blinds, ladder stands, and a few hang on stands. Well thought out, and shooting lanes cut. They also have additional hangers available to toss up if needed in a hurry. And he uses trail cameras extensively to monitor the deer.
Here is what his hunters say: "I found this outfitter 3 years ago, I will hunt with him as long as he will have me. He has the Mack daddy deer. He is one of the best I've ever seen. He knows his deer (I get photos from the game cameras throughout the year so I know what I'm looking for when I get there), he has great stand locations". (Eddie) "I've been hunting with Austin the past two years. Both years have been exceptionally good. First year I killed a 245lb deer 142" and last year I saw a ton of great deer but never got a shot. In my opinion, every aspect of the hunting trip both years have been spot on. Meals are great with him and his family. The lodging has all the amenities us hunters need. He knows every acre of their land and knows every deer that shows up from year to year. I'm often amazed at how well he can tell them apart from year to year. Every deer I have seen harvested from their land has been great quality as far as body mass and bone mass. He sets his stands in great locations that have great cover and allow you to see every direction in order to make the best shot on a trophy. There really isn't a bad stand location on their property". (Marcus)
Largest buck to date harvested by a client is a 185 ½" deer. But three larger have been harvested by his father in past years before they started outfitting one being 196". There are one or two 200" deer harvested in the area every year.
You should see a bunch of deer, so take your time, this is a 5 day hunt, and they have plenty of ground, and blinds to move you around to. Success dead on the ground has been around 65 to 70%. That's real good considering that a lot of the hunters are passing on 140 inch deer knowing that there is a possibility for a true monster on this hunt.

AK #54 MOOSE & BROWN BEAR ADVENTURE
|

If a Big Bear or Moose is on your Bucket list then this is the hunt for you!
This is an outfitter who seems to do just about everything very well, in terms of client satisfaction and taking trophy animals!! His client's have taken many of the top grizzlies in the book; he averages over 60" plus on his moose.
GRIZZLY / BROWN BEAR HUNTS
The grizzly bear population in Alaska's Game Management #19 is at an all time high. All of Unit #19 bears are considered to be "grizzly bears" by the Safari Club International. Also a good portion are considered grizzly bears by Boone & Crockett, depending just where in his concession they are shot. The further it is from a tidal area, the higher the chance it will be classed a griz.
Over the past ten years his clients have placed many grizzlies in top 10 SCI, and many have qualified for B&C. Several have qualified as brown bears in B&C - depending on location. Regardless of where they were shot, the average hides have squared well over eight feet with many over nine feet. Typically even the unsuccessful hunter will re-book for the following spring with him.
