NEW MEXICO # 90    ELK ADVENTURE UNIT 4

One of the best known elk areas in New Mexico is the famed Unit 4, a northern unit having virtually no public land, and an area carefully managed by ranchers and outfitters to provide premium elk hunting.

This is mountainous country, interspersed with both high and low-lying ranches. It is a scenic area, with an abundance of elk. Many of the twenty-odd ranches this outfitter hunts are lower lying private ground with areas of parks and meadows, scattered water tanks, and conifers ie. outstanding late-season elk habitat. Others are high-ground ranches.

We have worked with this outfitter for about 12 years or more and he has been operating for over 20 years in New Mexico, with a sterling record for honesty, hard work and producing elk. We have probably sent him over 100 clients. He controls leases on more than 20 different private ranches. Elevations average from about 7,000 feet to as high as 10,000 feet resulting in a variety of cover and hunting styles, depending on which ranch you hunt and what your dates are. High country or low, he covers it all.

Many of his guides have been with him for over 10 years, and some for over 20 years, which says a lot for the quality of the operation.

ALBERTA #62-  HUNT 10 DAYS FOR HUGE COUGARS
Only 2 Spots Left!
February 20-29th, 2016
 NO DRAW!

Alberta cougar hunting is truly beyond compare. Not only is Alberta blessed with the largest subspecies of cougar in North America, the largest specimens of this subspecies ever documented have been from here.

The average time to harvest a cougar on these hunts is 5-6 days. The outfitter likes their hunters to allow for a 10 day hunt as this will provide some flexibility for the varying weather conditions that are common at this time of year. Allowing ample time is an important factor in trying to insure success. This outfitter is among our highest priced lion Outfitters, but 10 days is about twice the time of most cat hunts- plus they have an abundance of huge cats. If your budget allows, it is tough to find a better cat hunt!!!

This outfit has earned a well deserved reputation as one of the foremost cougar outfitters in the business.  Hard working and knowledgeable guides; some of the biggest cats; hunter friendly terrain; all make their hunts the first choice for exceptional success rates and unmatched trophy quality.

Hunts include meals, lodging, guide service and field care of your Cougar. Tag costs are $269 and can be bought over the counter. Hunters fly into Calgary where they are picked up by the outfitter.

ALASKA # 140 HUNT GIANT FALL BLACK BEAR VIA BOAT

4 SPOTS AVAILABLE

SEPT 1-5 OR SEPT 8-12

Experience some of the finest hunting available on Prince of Wales Island (Unit 2) and Misty Fjords area (Unit 1) -- for Trophy Coastal Black Bears. This is a spot and stalk hunt which takes place by boat in the bays and inlets of Southeast Alaska. Butch and Joan have been to POW many times, with Joan taking a 7'2" bear- good but not super for this island! Bears are plentiful. Scenery awesome. POW bears can grow 19" skulls in 6-7 years, while mainland bears require twice that to reach those sizes. This outfit hunts from a custom built 31' aluminum boat. It has comfortable bunks for two people as well as a nice galley. Meals can vary from fresh caught shrimp to fresh Dungeness crab, to beef steaks and more. You will eat well. He trails along a skiff or two, so when bears are seen you can approach them; also you may hunt from the skiffs as they probe the back coves and inlets. Normally opportunity is 100% and kill rates close to that. But a wounded bear by law means your tag is filled and you are done. Many of his bears will push 7 feet and some larger! Bears are plentiful. Scenery awesome.

Fall means wading up the streams in your chest high waders, so it is more strenuous- but bears may end up in your lap and it is a great situation for any bow hunters as well as rifle hunters. The fall of (2012) saw one bow hunter take his big blackie at 15 feet; while his buddy with a gun took his at 25 yards!

Includes: Complete guide service, lodging, airport transfers, meals while in the field, trophy & meat care. Hunters fly into Ketchikan for Outfitter pick up.

COLORADO # 234   UNIQUE ANTELOPE OPPORTUNITY

This rancher has only taken about 3 antelope off their ranch in the past 20 years! Extremely hard tags to draw was the reason. This year, they got an early Christmas present from the DOW- 8 antelope vouchers for the herd that has grown so much.

We expect some truly large speedy goats to be taken off this spread. This may be a one shot deal- no telling if she gets these vouchers again next year! Hunt is for 3 days, and includes lodging, guiding, game retrieval and your home cooked dinner meals. Breakfast and lunch are on you, but the two story log cabin you stay in has cooking facilities, propane lights and a generator. The ranch has 10,000 acres, and plenty of antelope. You likely will see elk too! This is Unit 82 south of Salida, CO. Season is Oct 3-9; first hunt for 4 is Oct 3-5; second hunt is Oct 6 to 8, with the 9th held in reserve. These antelope have never been hunted- and they have age and lots of prime feed.

$2395 per hunter. License $374 plus a $10 habitat stamp. The vouchers will be transferred directly to the hunter by the rancher.

CO # 141-  EXTRAORDINARY SUCCESS ON FREE RANGE BULL ELK
This a Ranching For Wildlife operation- all free range, but they are authorized to issue their own tags, so you have a choice of weapon and dates.

At one point in our booking experience with this outfitter, he went something like 295 bulls for 300 clients- and last year success rates were just the same.  He controls a large number of ranches ans well as a huge acreage and he consistently kills bulls. In private discussions with Butch this past week, he told him he believes this newly acquired 6,000 acre ranch is the hottest he has seen in 35 years of guiding!

Over 6,000 acres of some the finest September/Early October bugle hunting in this area. Located on top of the continental divide this camp sets at approx. 9,000 feet in elevation, and is as scenic as any where you might decide to chase elk.  This property strategically controls the TOP OF THE WORLD and is about as good as it gets for bugling bulls. In 2014 this Camp had a 97% harvest rate on bull elk. Including bow!

With the exceptional hunting and the beautiful scenery, comes some physical requirements from the hunter, the majority of this hunting is accessed by ATV or horseback. This camp has more of a wilderness type feel to it. The camp is warm and comfortable and is located right in the middle of the bugling bulls. Sleep at night can be difficult with bulls bugling out your door.

This area has  some the finest September/Early October bugle hunting  the outfitter knows of.

 Openings: Sept 29-Oct 3;  Oct 5-9  $6500
