Tuesday Is Casual Dress For A Cause
Tuesday, Oct. 6, the boys' soccer teams are sponsoring a pink casual dress day to raise money for Alight Foundation, a local non-profit that supports women with breast cancer. A suggested $1 donation is completely optional. In lieu of admission to the soccer game, you can make a donation to Alight. Representatives from Alight will be a the game. Every year, Canterbury student athletes raise money to support a charity of their choice, and in the process gain leadership skills and understanding of the importance of helping others.

Can We Do It?
The Fund for Canterbury School, our annual fund, is off to a great start, but we need your help! Current parents have been challenged to reach 90 percent pledge participation by Dec. 17.  As of today, we are at 32 percent. Canterbury bases its expenses on projections for the year. Therefore, the earlier we know what your pledge amount is, the sooner we can begin putting your dollars to work to impact our students! The reward is knowing you've helped Canterbury maintain a quality faculty, innovative programming, and state-of-the-art facilities. Plus, you won't get ay reminder calls. Please support Canterbury with a pledge or gift to The Fund for Canterbury School by clicking here.

Attention 5th And 6th Grades: We Need Your Food Drive Bags
Please return the middle school food drive food bags sent home with 5th and 6th graders to their advisory. Participation is optional, and whether or not you contributed this time, please return the bags so that we can send them home with the 7th and 8th grades. Many thanks!

Check Out High School Options Monday Night
If you're wondering what your student's options are for high school, stop by Berry Hall Monday, Oct. 5, 6:30-8pm. Admission representatives from 40 high schools in Greensboro and around the country will be available to talk or share materials in an informal setting.  There's more information here.

2016 Canterbury Auction Is Really New And Different (And The Date Changed)!
Every other year, the Canterbury CPA hosts a festive, adults-only evening featuring a silent and live auction. The money raised supports the operating fund and other needs at the school. The previously announced auction date was in March, has been changed to Friday, Feb. 26, so be sure to mark your calendar.
Auctions have been held at off campus sites and in nearly every building on campus. This year, the silent auction will be in Phillips Chapel. Other Episcopal schools have used their chapels this way, and ancient cathedrals were centers for community life, hosting a variety of events. The committee thought long and hard about this option, and consulted with Father Finnin who is in complete support. Read more about his thoughts here.
A special thank you to Page DuBose, Thea Fitzgerald, and Donna Lee for co-chairing this event and to the many parents who are serving on various committees.

Support Canterbury By Buying Wrapping Paper
Innisbrook wrapping paper sales have begun. Catalogs were sent home last week. When you make a purchase, you support the CPA, as 50 percent of each sale goes directly back to the CPA. To order, return your order forms and payment to homerooms and advisories by Oct.16 in the envelopes provided. And, yes, you and out of town family members can still order online, and all online orders will be shipped directly to the purchaser's home for $7.50. Orders returned on order forms to school will be delivered to school at no cost. Order online at www.innisbrook.com (school code 106453).
Prizes including ice cream and pizza parties will be awarded to classes and individuals with the most sales. Students who sell five or more items will be awarded Minion keychains. You can help your student receive their Minion awards by filling out and returning the Minion coupons found in the Innisbrook envelope to homerooms and advisory classes. Please encourage your student to participate. Questions?  Contact Pam Carmody at [email protected] or Mary Troncale at [email protected].

Last Call For Canterbury Sweatshirts Or Long-Sleeve T-Shirts
You should have received an email last week about the opportunity to order Canterbury logo sweatshirts and long sleeve T-shirts. Both items are offered in sizes from PreK to adult and in several fun colors. Orders and payment are due by 4pm Monday, Oct. 5. You can order sweatshirts ($30) at this link, and T-shirts ($20) at this link. Send a check made out to Canterbury School or cash to the office. Please don't feel obligated to buy anything. This is completely optional and offered because some parents requested this while the school store is in transition. Contact Libba LaFave with any questions.

Sock Drive Is Sponsored By 8th Grade Learning Lab Class
A clean, warm, dry pair of socks . . . every step a homeless person takes is a painful reminder of their situation. New socks help with the obvious health problems that exist for a homeless person's feet. New socks are a simple and powerful way to show love to someone going through a difficult time. Help us give comfort, health, and hope. For more information, click here.

Sibling Applications Are Due
Please send in your sibling applications for PreK-8th grades for the 2016-17 school year now. Canterbury will waive the $45 application fee for siblings if the application is received on or before Oct. 30, 2015. If you have a current PreK student, you do not need to submit an application for kindergarten.
You may apply online or use a printed version of the application, both available here on our website. If you choose the online application, please contact Kelen Walker to receive the fee waiver code. Thank you!

Canterbury Cougars "Paws" To Make A Difference
The Greensboro Urban Ministry CROP Hunger Walk is the fall service-learning project for first grade students at Canterbury. In an effort to help the hungry and homeless in our community, we invite you to walk in the mini CROP Hunger Walk, buy a CROP Walk T-shirt, and make a monetary donation to the cause. You may also make a donation of canned food items for the food pantry at Greensboro Urban Ministry. We will collect canned food at the chapel service on Friday, Oct.16, in Phillips Chapel.
You can use the attached order form to purchase T-shirts for $5. The proceeds will directly benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry (GUM). Checks for T-shirts should be made out to GUM. The shirts will be on sale in Fry Hall beginning Oct. 5, 7:45-8am, while supplies last. Students who purchase a T-shirt may wear it to school on Oct. 16. Later that day, the first grade students will lead the mini-walk around campus beginning at 2:30pm in front of Fry Hall. Other classes may join or walk at another time that day. Please feel free to join us.
If you choose to make a monetary donation, please make checks payable to Church World Service. Last year our school raised $2,500 for the CROP Hunger Walk, and historically, over the past decade, the Canterbury community has contributed $33,000 to help fight hunger in our community and worldwide.  We are grateful for your continued support. Mrs. Finnin and Ms. Hoover thank you!
