Thank you for participating in the Trex Plastic Bag Challenge
So far we were able to collect 60 lbs. which diverted that much plastic from our landfills. We have until the end of this month to participate, so please make one last effort to bring in all your bags by April 22nd!
Our plastic bags will be turned into birdhouses, benches, decks, fences, garden furniture etc. Here's an interesting fact: the average 100-linear foot Trex composite fence contains 140,000 recycled plastic bags! That makes Trex one of the largest plastic bag recyclers in the U.S. You can see a birdhouse that Sears got for earlier participation in the Challenge hanging in the outdoor classroom.
We hope you will participate next year when we kick off again on America Recycles Day in November. Meanwhile you can take your bags to the recycling bins at Jewel Osco, Target and other local stores. Thank you again for your support.
Earth Week
Sears will celebrate Earth Week during the week of April 25th.
This will be a Walk & Bike to school week, so please encourage your children to have a positive impact on the environment by walking or biking.
Remember to pack Waste Free Lunches if you aren't already doing so.
It will also be our last week of participation in the Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge - bring in all those plastic bags to be recycled!
Former Sears student Stella Cook (now a freshman at New Trier) will come to Sears on Monday to give a presentation to all students about what each one of us can do to be environmentally more responsible.
