Veterans Day Care Packages
This year the Joseph Sears School will be collecting items for care packages that we plan to send to our military currently deployed overseas. Collections will take place Monday, November 2nd - Wednesday, November 11th. Boxes will be in each classroom and will be sent out on Veterans Day. Attached is more information and a list of recommended items to bring for collection. Items recommended are toiletries, personal care products, coffee pods (Kcups), high protein snacks, current reading material, etc. Please no liquids, aerosols or chocolate as these will not be able to be sent.
Thank you in advance for making the holidays a bit brighter for our deployed military!
Please see the plans for Sears School to honor veterans this year!
Turkey Trot
The 2015 "Turkey Trot with a Kick" on Thursday, November 19th will utilize a new format this year. The children will participate in a Kickball tournament that will be administered in the various PE classes throughout the day. The Kick It Foundation is the designated charity this year which supports pediatric and adolescent cancer research. Our surrounding villages have children that are currently battling cancer, and this is an opportunity for Kenilworth to show we care and support a wonderful cause. Steve Calk and The Federal Savings Bank have graciously donated the T-shirts for the event so the JSSPVA can proudly make a donation of $2,950.00 on behalf of the school to the Kick It Foundation. Children should get ready to bring their many talents to the "2015 Turkey Trot with a Kick" kickball tournament later this month.
Sears Has Heart
By now you should have received a letter, brochure and return envelope about this year's Benefit write-in campaign, SEARS HAS HEART. If not, please contact us immediately so we can get it to you. Additionally, if you would like grandparents or any other family members to receive information about how they can participate, please provide us with their names and addresses. SEARS HAS HEART can only be successful with the help of YOU. The first way to get involved is to give. Our primary goal is to achieve 100% participation by all Sears families. We also need volunteers. If you are interested in a role involving the philanthropic arm of this year's campaign, or if you want to help plan the Donor Thank You Party, we want to hear from you! Please contact us, at aveber711@gmail.com
8th Grade Service Project
The 8th grade is proud to support Refugee One this year as their 8th grade service project. Refugee One has welcomed more than 16,000 refugees from countless major world crises to Chicago. The ultimate goal of Refugee One's programs is to help refugee families become self reliant in as few as 6-9 months.
The 8th grade has already done a coat drive and will go to Refugee One on December 7th to work at their Youth Center in several capacities to help the refugee children feel welcome in the community. The 8th grade will also be sponsoring a "Giving Tree" to collect gifts for 200 refugee children between the ages of 1-19. The trees will be in the Link and will have gift tag hearts with each refugee child's gender, age and a specific gift recommendation. Please consider sponsoring a child by having your child pull a heart and bring an unwrapped gift to school valued at between $15-$20. Please email Jennifer Davidson or Leslie Holling with any questions.
Recycle Your Old Markers
Mrs. Hubert and the Environmental Subcommittee are recycling your old markers, pens, mechanical pencils, and permanent markers. Recycling bins are set up throughout the building (art rooms, Mrs. Hubert's room, library) or
have your children recycle them in their classrooms and the classroom teacher will pass them along to Mrs. Hubert.
