Dear Puma families,
It's March! That means we're breaking ground on our new middle school addition. So excited! Who else is excited? I'm excited to be part of something so meaningful to not just my kids, but to the district as a whole. Being able to have more of a choice for my daughters' middle school years makes me happy. And the different opportunities at Nesbit make me happy. Can't wait to see the progress that is made!
March also means it's time for the School Force Fundraiser, Moonlight and Martinis, on March 14. The ticket sales end Sunday, so please buy your tickets soon. This has been such a fun event the past few years. Please join us! The online auction goes live on March 8 and is open to the public. Please share the word about the auction with others who don't attend our amazing schools!
Our Fifth Graders are heading to Outdoor Education in just a few weeks. This is going to be the first time many are away from their parents for more than one night. What a great adventure, what wonderful memories! Next year's fifth grade class (aka current 4th graders) are starting to plan and work on their fundraising goals for their turn. Stay tuned for their new fundraising idea in April.
A big thank you to Melissa Keefe and Akehmi Gertz who are working on this years' Multi-Cultural Night event. Please join us March 20 at 6:00 for a sampling of food and culture from around the globe.
Also, I'd like to thank all our teachers for a fantastic week celebrating Read Across America, and give a big shout out to our fabulous teachers, Valerie Messina and Katey Marsh, for taking on the Talent Show this year! Each year we have the opportunity to see the amazing talents of our wonderful puma kids. Maybe another Flash Mob from our staff??
Finally, tomorrow is the last chance to order Puma Spirit wear. Our fabulously talented VP has designed another winning item for us to show our Puma Pride. Orders must be in TOMORROW. We are short 23 orders to make our minimum, so please place your order now! Click on the link below to order your hoodie:

Library News
|
This week is READ ACROSS AMERICA and we're celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday in the library. It's a lot of fun!! We got a shipment of 3 boxes of new books for our Nesbit Library. Thank you PTA for adding the library to your annual budget. New books are always needed and appreciated. Every year some books get damaged, lost or just fall apart. We also need to order the award winning books to add to our collection. I will have ADOPT-A-BOOKS available for donating to the library on the evening of our Multi Cultural Dinner. Please stop by my table and adopt a book for our library. I will take a photo of your student for a personalized book plate. All ADOPT-A-BOOKS are $20, you choose the title. Keep reading! 3rd GRADE
WAX MUSEUM
Last week, Nesbit's 3rd grade students culminated their Biography unit with a Wax Museum. Their assignment was to choose an influential person from history, read biography texts, identify the main ideas of the person's life, and present their findings to an audience by either reading aloud from the text, summarizing the key points from an index card, or memorizing a script.
Great job, 3rd grade, Ms. Marsh, and Ms. Martinez!
Can you guess who this influential person is?
(Hint: She's a Nesbit Puma)

IMPORTANT NOTES FROM THE OFFICE
ABSENCES: When your child is out of school, please make sure you call the office. It is ok to email your teacher, but the teacher has 24+ other students, so your email may not make it to the office. You can email the office, too; however, not all emails go through as some end up in spam.
It is best to call (650)637-4860 and please leave a message.
Messages are retrieved all day long.
If your child is out for 5 days or more, we require a doctor's note. (Note: next year a note will be required for 3+ consecutive absences)
TARDIES: We are noticing a number of students coming to school late. School starts at 8:25 and if Mrs Maganaris has said "Good morning, Nesbit School" and your child is not in line with his/her class, your child is considered late. When your child is late, s/he must come to the office and get a pass for class. Please try your best to get your child(ren) to school on time.
MEDICATIONS: NO MEDICATIONS (prescription or over the counter) should be in your child's backpack or pocket. Students CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be carrying medications of any kind. All medications MUST be brought to the office. It is a big liability (and dangerous) if other children get medication that does not belong to them.
LICE: We have had reports of lice in our school in the last month. If your child has lice, it is very important to let the office know so we can take precautions to keep it from spreading to other children. We send home notices to parents alerting them of the exposure so they can check at home as well.
