Pueblo Airport's Prowess
How PUB is working with their EDC
Pueblo Colorado is known as the gateway to Southeast Colorado. A bustling town compromised of more than 106,000 people, Pueblo is located at the confluence of the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek. The so called 'Steel City' has a thriving business community and economic development prowess. Pueblo has integral relationship it has with its airport.
Hangar Network recently toured Pueblo Memorial Airport, with Airport Director Mark Lovin. We admired a soon to be finished third runway, a symbol of the substantial commitment that the town has made to its airport. The airport's public authority has strong backing and financial support from the Pueblo Economic Development Corporation (PEDCO), which views the airport as a critical component in the attraction of new industry. PEDCO is aggressively seeking new industries to compliment the already successful airport and adjacent industrial park. PEDCO retains unique economic flexibilities with some of its airport facilities as it looks to attract new business. Other local businesses at the airport include DOSS Aviation, Flower FBO, Vesta's Wind Turbines, Transportation Technology, and Goodrich Aviation products.

Colorado Legislation Gives Boost to State's Aviation MROs
HB 1080 Set to Pass
Denver, CO. On Monday, the Colorado State Senate is set to pass HB1080, referred to as the "Aircraft Manufacturer Employee Income Tax Credit." The bill makes a slight modification to the "Aviation Development Zone Act," which was originally passed during the 2005 general assembly, and gave a $1,200 per employee tax credit to Colorado aircraft manufactures within the state for each new hire they employ. The modification redefines "aircraft manufacture," to include a business or any portion of a business that is involved in the maintenance and repair, completion, or modification of aircraft. If passed, the new legislation would provide tax relief to a variety of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) businesses within the state. Major beneficiaries of the new legislation include Colorado aviation employers like Sierra Nevada Corporation and West Star Aviation, and a broad variety of small MROs. Communities and airports across the state will also benefit; this is a new way to entice out-of-state MRO business to relocate.
