2015 CTOTF Fall Turbine Forum, Issue 3

Think of it as a marriage with a timestamp and a substantial upfront investment to ensure its "performance." That's how Emera Energy, which acquired Bridgeport Energy in late 2013, and Siemens Power Generation, Orlando, are walking out of the church following an extensive plant modernization program that involved major maintenance, life extension, and technology upgrades on two 84.3A gas turbine/generators (GT/G) and one steam turbine/generator (ST/G), plus replacement of the original TXP control system with Siemens Energy Inc's (Alpharetta, Ga) T3000. more
Siemens meeting focuses on issues, solutions, technology developments for large frames
Siemens Energy Inc's first technical conference for owner/operators of its F, G, and H gas turbines, held Sept 14-17, 2015 at Walt Disney World's Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, was rated a "success" by attendees sharing their views with the editors after the meeting. Approximately 130 users from across the globe participated. CCJ's editorial team, unable to attend this meeting because of schedule constraints, asked Siemens' Christie Robinson, representing the frame-owner office and product-line managers, to prepare the summary below. more
F-class hot-parts repair clinic helps users write better specs, identify optimal solutions
You're probably tired of hearing about the loss of experienced managers, engineers, and technicians to retirement and the knowledge gap this has created on the deck plates. You might even want to scream, "Enough already, the turbine shaft is still turning and we're making electricity." True enough, but look around, who will you turn to when questions arise? What if less senior employees-and management-expect you to have the answers? This may be the right time to invest in skills/knowledge development. It's the first step on the pathway to career advancement. more
All independent user groups supporting Siemens frames to meet in February 2016
The 501G, 501D5-D5A, and 501F user groups all are scheduled to meet in February 2016, possibly making this the most important month of the year for owner/operators of Siemens frames wanting to collaborate on topics critical to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of their generating plants. For 501F users it will be the only opportunity in 2016 to meet with suppliers of products and services that support their gas turbines, heat-recovery steam generators, steam turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant equipment independently of the OEM. more
