TILs 1884, 1854, and 1562 important to achieving high availability with your 7EAs |
The 2013 Conference of the 7EA Users Group, conducted at the Hyatt Regency Monterey (Calif) Hotel and Spa, October 22-24, exceeded expectations in terms of participation, venue, and content-at least according to an informal poll by the editors. There were nearly 140 owner/operators in attendance, including more than two dozen international delegates, plus multiple representatives from most of the 107 companies exhibiting on the second evening of the event. more

Clashing: 7EA user pursuing in-house analysis, solution updates colleagues on progress | Clashing has been a presentation and/or discussion topic on the program of every 7EA Users Group meeting since 2008, which is as far back as the editors can remember. Despite the damage found in dozens of 7EA compressors over the years, the OEM essentially dismissed clashing as a non-problem-according to concerned users. In fact, the issue was not even addressed by a Technical Information Letter until April 2013 when TIL 1884, "7EA R1/S1 Inspection Recommendations," was issued. more |
NERC, industry not in synch on battery tests needed to assure reliable grid operation |
The bad news delivered by Interstate PowerCare's J Allen Byrne to owner/operators attending the 7EA User Group's 2013 Conference, at least the way the CCJ editors interpreted it, was that the federal government apparently knows as much about battery maintenance and testing as it does about healthcare. However, in the case of batteries, there seems to be good news: The IEEE Power Engineering Society's Stationary Battery Committee created a special task force to review the government's work and share industry knowledge and experience to help assure that the desired regulatory objectives are achieved. more

Sensing a winner, Kraft rolls out TurboPHASE on the industry's biggest stage |
Bob Kraft, founder and CEO of PowerPHASE LLC, showed he hasn't lost his ability to conceive, develop, build, promote, and sell products of importance and value to the electric power industry. Kraft, you may recall, was one of the founders of Power Systems Mfg LLC, better known today as PSM.
Only a year ago, he introduced on paper TurboPHASEâ„¢, a compressed-air system for boosting gas-turbine power, promising it would deliver peak capability within a minute or so after pressing the "start" button. Last week at Power-Gen, Kraft unveiled a full-scale system at the PowerPHASE booth -one of the busiest on the show floor. more

ZEE keeps liquid fuel systems ready for service without test firing | With more than half of the owner/operators attending the 7EA Users Group 2013 Conference in Monterey, Calif, October 22-24, running engines capable of burning oil, JASC's system for verifying the integrity and readiness of the liquid fuel system, without test firing, was of considerable interest to attendees. Although a few of the users present had oil-only units, most operated dual-fuel machines for which the Zero Emission Equipment (ZEE) Performance Test was designed. more |
