Government Matters
May 24, 2016
School's almost out for summer, but we want to make sure you've had an opportunity to learn what's going on - about downtown Carrboro, summer road construction, and the sign ordinance, among many other issues - before you head out of town (maybe even on a nonstop flight to Paris?). Before elected bodies "recess" for their summer vacation, join us in saying thank you at our Local Government Appreciation Reception June 30.
Saying thank you
Annually, we host the Local Government Appreciation Reception, offering an opportunity to meet informally with and show the business community's gratitude toward elected officials from Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, in addition to local government senior staff. Join us 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 30 at Top of the Hill's Great Room to say thank you to these public servants. Purchase tickets online or call the Chamber at (919) 967-7075.
#FeelFree to get an update on Carrboro
Much is going on in the Paris of the Piedmont and  Town of Carrboro Economic & Community Development Director Annette Stone is giving you two opportunities to learn more. Join Annette for an update 8 a.m., Thursday, May 26 at the Century Center OR 8 a.m., Thursday, June 2 at the Chamber (our June EDPP meeting) for an update on what's going on in the Carrboro business community including the Town's parking study and IFC's FoodFirst. Attend either or both updates and #feelfree to ask questions!
Boulder bound
We are excited to announce we will be traveling to Boulder, CO Sept. 25-28 for our 2016 Inter-City Visit & Leadership Conference! Biennially, the Chamber takes these trips to learn from peer communities and build strong relationships within our own. Learn more about past inter-city visits at our website and the value of these trips in this presentation made at the 2015 International Town & Gown Association conference. Pricing and details will be posted soon, but we hope you'll save the date. See you in September!
Get Ready for the June 2016 Primary
With a second special primary election set for Tuesday, June 7, it means that it's important to ensure you're registered and have a few dates marked.   Here's your [short] election to-do list:
#AllAreWelcomeHere
Last week, the Chamber joined regional organizations in Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh in launching a new campaign, "All Are Welcome Here," to promote the Triangle's commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equality. The campaign is an open source initiative, and everyone is invited to share the love. To learn more and share your story, visit allarewelcomehere.com: download a logo, social media avatar, or another asset and use them to express your story-on a t-shirt, a website, a poster, anything. Join us on social media using the hashtag #AllAreWelcomeHere, and share pictures, videos, and your own narrative of why you choose to live, work, visit, or do business in the Triangle.
