Government Matters
March 28, 2016
Discouraged by the tenor of state and national politics? We want to ensure that we're not sitting on the sidelines and making our voice heard.  But also you know that much of the work that needs to be done, has to be done locally - so consider joining us for some important updates and conversations April 5 & 7 and let us know if you're a business who opposes HB 2
Chamber on HB 2
Chamber Board Chair Anthony Pugliese
Consistent with our opposition to Amendment 1 and our mission to serve and support the business interests of our community and to create a sustainable community where business thrives, we have issued the following statement:

"The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce believes discrimination is a business issue and we oppose any legislation that allows discrimination and diminishes North Carolina's reputation as a welcoming place for employers and employees.  In 2012, we were proud to play a leadership role in organizing business opposition to North Carolina's now-unconstitutional Amendment 1 and we will continue to voice our support for civil rights.  Today we join with many of our members in publicly expressing our opposition to HB2 as bad for business and bad for North Carolina."
-Anthony Pugliese, Chair, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce

At April's Economic Development & Public Policy Committee meeting, we'll hear about the progress being made on the Downtown 2020 strategy from the Town of Chapel Hill's Rae Buckley. Input from the public participation efforts related to Rosemary Imagined and Downtown Imagined resulted in a multitude of great ideas for Downtown Chapel Hill. Join us 8-9:30 a.m. in the Chamber's conference room to learn more about the priorities downtown and next steps. EDPP Committee meetings are open to any Chamber member employee.
