Friends of the Downtown is also Thursday
After you've dug through the data at the State of the Community Report, head downtown to hear Chamber board member and Senior Associate Athletic Director Rick Steinbacher at Friends of the Downtown. A former Tar Heels football captain, Rick now manages all Carolina Athletics external communications. Head to The Franklin Hotel at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 27 for an inside perspective on how the football team will perform this year and learn more about other upcoming UNC sporting events. At our monthly meeting of the Economic Development & Public Policy Committee, we're fortunate to hear from Rep. David Price. Come hear an update on federal issues and ask questions of our sitting congressman, 8-9:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Chamber's Louise Beck Properties conference room. David Price represents North Carolina's Fourth District that includes parts of Alamance, Orange, Durham, Wake, Harnett, Chatham and Cumberland counties. Price currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is the ranking member of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Appropriations subcommittees covering homeland security, military construction and veterans affairs. EDPP meetings are open to any Chamber member employee.

Coffee with a Cop for Downtown Merchants
Downtown merchants and property owners, join us for Coffee with a Cop, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2 at DSI Comedy. This is an informal way to meet with local law enforcement and ask your questions about local issues and regulations including noise, accidental alarms, and parking services. Promote Your Job Openings Locally
Orange County is hosting its Job Fair 10 a.m.-2p.m., Wednesday, September 23 at University Place. The county's job fairs have had attendance as high as 300-400 job seekers. If you'd like to promote your job openings at this event, there is no charge for your company to participate. In addition to the job fair, the county also offers a free breakfast seminar where information will be shared about tax incentives and other salary-share programs offered by state and federal government.
