You answered the call. And when you speak, people listen. In this month's Government Matters, read about the wins for business and the local economy, because YOU weighed in, and how you can continue the conversation.

Your voice makes a difference
You have answered the call. As Chapel Hill Town Council took up 123 West Franklin, Bicycle Apartments, and last night, changes to the sign ordinance, you weighed in. Chamber members spoke at meetings, sent emails, and wrote letters to the editor, to say that we needed more housing, retail, office and parking downtown; that student housing on a transit corridor is good for our university and our town; and that we needed a business-friendly sign ordinance. (If you want to say thank you for these steps in the right direction, email mayorandcouncil@townofchapelhill.org.) Your voice makes a difference - thank you for adding yours to these important conversations.

Continue the conversation
Rather than spar over the dais, this is your chance to speak to local and state elected officials in a much more intimate setting. Join us 8-10 a.m., Monday, April 22 at the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel for Eggs with Elected Officials. This breakfast is your chance to engage in face-to-face dialogue with elected officials about what's important to you and your business. Register today online or contact Chela Tu at ctu@carolinachamber.org or (919) 357-9990 for more information.

The Town wants to know what you think
The Town of Chapel Hill wants to know what YOU think. They are asking you - whether you live, work, play, pray, or commute to Chapel Hill - what are your budget priorities and what's your vision for the Estes Drive/MLK Blvd area. By March 28, take three minutes to weigh in on planning for the Central West area, because MLK is a major transportation corridor, Estes is the cross-town connector, and it's an opportunity to advocate for smart development. And by April Fools', make sure you take 10 minutes to rank your 2013-14 budget priorities for the Town of Chapel Hill, because this has an impact on our property taxes and is a way of measuring the community's values and priorities.

WE want to know what you think
Every year, we ask our members what you think about the Chamber to better understand what we can do to help your organization thrive. Please take ten minutes to share your thoughts in our Membership Survey. We know it's long, but helps us serve you better as our members. Additionally, the survey asks you to rate your satisfaction with our advocacy events and activities - which is helpful for us to know! We appreciate your membership and hope you'll take the time to let us know what you think.
