As 2012 draws to a close, we know that folks are looking back on this past year and making resolutions for the next. Here are five resolutions we hope you consider making to continue to strengthen our community's business climate:

1. Become a member of the Chamber's Economic Development & Public Policy Committee: The Chamber's Economic Development and Public Policy (EDPP) committee meets monthly, now at a new day, the first Thursday of the month at 8 AM. Any Chamber member employee can participate and helps you stay on top of local government news and policy. Join us Thursday, January 3rd at the Chamber to hear from Todd LoFrese with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools system and Ben Perry with  East West Partners.

2. Join a county or municipal advisory board: The Chamber has made it a priority to increase business representation on municipal and county boards. Please check out the below links to local board vacancies and consider applying for a position:

3. Attend our Annual Meeting: Join us Tuesday, January 29 for the 2013 Chamber Annual Meeting! At the Annual Meeting, you'll connect with more than 350 elected officials, business leaders and community members; learn about the Chamber's successes in 2012 and its plans for 2013; and celebrate the 2012 Businesses of the Year! Register by December 31 for early bird pricing, and don't forget to nominate a Business of the Year!

4. Attend a local government meeting: Almost on a weekly basis, Chapel Hill Town Council, Carrboro Board of Aldermen, and the Orange County Board of Commissioners, meet and decide on issues that impact your business. It's our job to keep you informed and show up when the business community needs representation. But we hope that you'll attend one meeting this year - let them know how their policies impact your business, and maybe consider throwing your own hat in the ring! (Save the date: municipal elections will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013!)

5. Make your voice heard: But we understand it might be difficult to make it to a certain meeting. Or you find that you just don't have the time to serve on an advisory board. However, we will still call on you to ensure that the business community's voice is heard! Email  [email protected], write a letter to the editor, or record a commentary. Our elected officials and our community need to hear from YOU! Help us make this a thriving community for business and make your voice heard.

As always, thank you for your membership and best wishes for you and your business in 2013!
