Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving

June 3 - 14

There's an easy way to make a difference in the lives of others - become a Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving member!

What is the Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving?

The Employee Circle of Giving is an ongoing program that allows employees to participate in the mission of Saint Luke's Foundation by making charitable gifts through payroll deduction.

The Foundation supports the hospital's role as a teaching hospital and center for research and provides funding for community outreach, charity care, and medical programs not covered by patient fees.

How can my gift help Saint Luke's patients and employees?

You decide where you want to direct your support, and 100 percent of your gift benefits the program you choose. Your contribution can help patients by supporting a specific medical program. Or your gift can benefit Saint Luke's employees and their families by supporting employee assistance funds, continuing education funds, and many more.

How many employees participate?

In 2012, 1,798 employees within Saint Luke's Health System contributed $269,138 through payroll deduction to the Employee Circle of Giving. More than 110 programs received support from employee donors.

How much should I give?

We kindly request a minimum donation of $2 per pay period. Payroll gifts are deducted for 24 pay periods and can be changed or cancelled at any time by contacting Tanya Carson, communications manager, at tcarson@saint-lukes.org or 816-932-5612.

What funds are available?

There are many funds available to support. Your gift can help patients by supporting a specific medical program. Or you can benefit Saint Luke's employees and their families by supporting the Miracle on 44th Street fund, providing assistance to employees experiencing a personal or financial crisis. You can also support continuing education funds for employees to gain new skills in their area of clinical expertise.

Visit saintlukesgiving.org/employee for a list of funds. If you're already a donor, you can make changes to your payroll deduction or the fund you support, or update your contact information.

How do I sign up?

Payroll deduction is one of the easiest ways to make recurring gifts to Saint Luke's Foundation. Sign up online  or complete a printed pledge form and return it via interoffice mail to Tanya Carson at Saint Luke's Foundation.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. The total amount of contributions for a specific year is listed on your last paystub for the year. You may use this for documentation for tax purposes. No goods or services are provided in exchange for payroll contributions.

Is this the same as the United Way?

No. Gifts to the Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving support Saint Luke's programs and services only. The United Way is a separate organization and raises funds to support a variety of community organizations. Gifts to the Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving are managed internally by Saint Luke's Foundation. There are no administrative fees, meaning 100 percent of your gift goes directly to the fund you choose to support.

Circle of Giving matters to SLHS employees

A grateful nurse explains how the Foundation's continuing education support allowed her to benefit from a national conference: "Returning from the conference, I felt a renewed passion for my profession. There is nothing that can express the exhilarating feeling you get from attending a meeting of this magnitude. I look forward to sharing information I gathered at the conference with my co-workers."

"It's so easy to simply pick a fund and start supporting it. Even if the gifts are small, even if you think they won't matter much, they really do. You
can make a difference."
Alan Pirnie, R.N., Saint Luke's Mid America Institute STEMI coordinator and Employee Circle of Giving donor.

"The Circle of Giving supports our mission at Saint Luke's to provide care to those who need it. We have the skills and expertise to meet that need, and donating as an employee is an important part of that equation."

Jennifer Ball, R.N., B.S.N., MBA, director of eICU Center Operations and Employee Circle of Giving donor.
