Saint Luke's Hospital eRounds

SLHS annual employee satisfaction survey begins today!

Please take the 2013 employee survey online by midnight Friday, May 31.

This is your chance to share your opinions about working at Saint Luke's Health System. Your responses will help our health system, your hospital/entity, and your department become even better places to work in the future.

The survey is anonymous, and your responses are confidential.

 Frequently Asked Questions

How do I take the Employee Satisfaction Survey?

You can access the survey via the links above or the Employee eLink.

Are my results confidential?

Yes. SLHS has nearly 10,000 employees eligible to take the survey. Comments from employees are only available to the Operations/Executive Team and are not grouped by department. Responses are grouped by subject.

I log on to my computer using my A number. Does the survey track my A number, too?

The survey link is taken outside of the SLHS network firewall and no information, including A numbers, can be tracked. You can access the survey at work or at home by going to the Employee eLink.

Do I have to complete the demographic information? Why are demographics important?

Yes. This provides us feedback for large groups of employees based on their characteristics. Example: Demographic information tells us if the evening shift is satisfied with something and the day shift is not. Your responses influence change. We are required to collect specific demographic data for our Magnet designation.

I'm the only person in my department who is a male. If I complete the demographics, will my department manager know that it is me?

No. The data given to leaders does not include specific demographics of individuals within the department.

Why do I have to select my department leader?

This gives leaders a general overview of employee satisfaction in departments. Your individual responses remain anonymous.

My department has fewer than 10 people. Will my manager know who is completing it?

If your department has fewer than 10 responses, your department leader's results will roll to the next level leader to ensure the survey remains anonymous.

Where do my results go once I submit the survey?

All results are compiled in the Survey Monkey account which is outside the SLHS network. An analyst compares the data against system and national scores.

SLMAHI research spotlighted at AHA QCOR conference

Research led by Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute physicians and clinicians is once again in the spotlight - this time at the Quality of Care and Outcomes Research (QCOR) in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke 2013 Scientific Sessions.

The conference, which is being held today through Friday in Baltimore, will include four oral presentations and 37 poster presentations from SLMAHI. With so many presentations, SLMAHI is among the top presenters at the conference and far exceeds the participation of any other hospital in our region.

In addition, John Spertus, M.D., will be honored with the QCOR Distinguished Achievement Award. This award is given every three years to the individual who has made the most substantive contributions to the QCOR Council.

Watch for more information in next week's eRounds.

Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving

June 3 - 14

Did you know that in 2012, 1,798 employees within Saint Luke's Health System contributed $269,138 through payroll deduction to Saint Luke's Employee Circle of Giving?

As a Saint Luke's employee, you give so much of your time, talents, and dedication to the work you do. And you know more than anyone what a strong impact your gift can make on the strength of our programs and the well-being of our patients and fellow employees.

Last year, more than 100 programs received support from employee donors, ranging from the Miracle on 44th Street employee emergency assistance fund to departmental education funds.

For as little as $2 per pay period, your gift can support Saint Luke's Foundation and benefit medical programs and patient care as well as your colleagues and their families. When you contribute to a specific fund, 100 percent of your gift goes to support the program you choose. And these contributions truly make a meaningful impact.

For example, departmental educational funds allow nurses, therapists, and other employees to attend national conferences to gain additional knowledge and expertise in their medical area - which ultimately helps to keep Saint Luke's on the leading edge of patient care.

Look for more information about the Foundation's upcoming Circle of Giving campaign throughout June 3 - 14. For more information on how to become an Employee Circle of Giving member, please contact Tanya Carson at tcarson@saint-lukes.org or ext. 25612, or visit saintlukesgiving.org/employee.

National Medical Transcriptionist Week

May 19 - 25

Medical transcriptionists are the guardians of health record integrity. They prevent errors, preserve stories, and protect lives. Health care documentation specialists play a critical role in capturing and preserving America's health story. As guardians of data integrity, they are the clinician's partner to ensure an accurate, secure, and meaningful health record for patient care and safety. Health care documentation specialists chronicle the information-rich narrative that is the cornerstone in clinical decision-making and coordination of patient care.

Thank you medical transcriptionists for all you do!

May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month

Each May, the brain tumor community steps up its efforts to raise awareness, educate people about the disease, raise funds, and empower everyone affected by brain tumors. To kick off May's Brain Tumor Awareness Month, Saint Luke's Neuro Oncology Clinic held our first annual picnic for patients and their families! It was a fantastic turnout with beautiful weather. With Dr. Salacz overseeing the grill, patients, family members, and clinic staff enjoyed an afternoon with great company and great food. This was a wonderful way to kick off Brain Tumor Awareness Month. We look forward to making this an annual event.

Stay tuned throughout the month as we share other information about brain tumors and the Saint Luke's Neuro Oncology Clinic.

eRounds is published each Wednesday. Please submit any information for publication to slhrounds@saint-lukes.org by noon on Monday.
